I think I found you.
Tall boy with a long stride
and a heart made of silver.
A boy I watched grow up
from a dorky child, into
somewhat of an adolescent man.
Your smile got bright suddenly
and your eyes lit up after all these
years when you talked and you
just laughed like the world wasn't
collapsing around you.
and I held my breath when I
realized it was you.
so young and too innocent
to understand the burdens
my heart carries.
but a part of me wants
to just love you and forget
the gap, even though
you wouldn't understand
the things I do and you
wouldn't see the things
that I would.
but I know your place is here
and it's childish to want to
take you from it.
so I'll just watch your ivory
skinned self walk away.
and I'll try ignoring it.
not for my sake, darling.
I'm saving you,
not myself.
