remember when
it was winter?
we were falling
in love
to the sound
of the piano
and laughing
as the snow fell
down outside.
remember when
you started
writing songs?
you said
you'd done it again
just for me.
then suddenly
I wasn't the only one
enjoying your songs
and lyrics written for me.
remember when
we were kids?
we would hold hands
and listen to old music
in separate cities.
we would look out
windows and watch
clouds pass by?
remember when
we stargazed
like we were together
but 600 miles
was too far,
even for us?
remember when
you picked me up
at two in the morning
and drove me to the
lake because
I couldn't be home?
remember when
the orchestra
played a tune and we
danced along and
you spun me around in
a million circles?
we were floating
around among
the stars then.
remember when
we would drive
into downtown
at night and just
race through the
streets looking at
all the lights?
remember when
you would rest
your head on
my shoulder?
or when
you smoked
an unlit cigarette?
when you told
me I didn't have to
wear my heels
anymore,
when you said
the party was over?
when you got drunk
and I held you
on the couch until
we both fell asleep?
when we binged
every Harry Potter
movie?
when I
moved away.
when we stopped
talking.
when we
weren't we anymore.
I don't blame you
if you don't
it was a long
time ago.
