"Hello, you are?" I informed him of my name. Including a brief explanation that I had a different birth name. His face fell for a second but it came back as he spoke gently. Trying to figure out what to give me. He grumbled something about last time.
"Your parents had very similar wands. Not the most powerful and rather short. Not flexible either." I felt like he was giving me an insult but it was ignored as I blinked it all to the back of my mind and he walked to find a box for me.
My mouth watered a little as a wand was pulled out and I realised that it really was going to happen. If it didn't feel real before it did then as his shaking hand gave me a wooden stick. I held it for a second and then moved it but a loud bang occured and it was then pulled from my hands so quickly it hurt a little and a smile came to his face.
"Not like your parents," He grumbled and headed back as another box was sought out for me. A bit of fear ran up me until finally he came back. It was a little longer. A little more flexible but not much.
Again I held it and waved it, nothing good occured as he stood, perplexed as to why he was getting it so wrong and I bit my lip. Hoping that I hadn't done it all wrong. Hermione let a hand fall onto both of my shoulders as she comforted me a little bit.
"It would appear that not being raised by your birth parents has changed you considerably." I tried to see what she meant but as she quietly said this the man dropped a box on the table and merrily mumbled to himself.
"Not raised by your birth parents? Well, the Apple has not only fallen from the tree but joined another tree." I had no clue what he was saying and so just went with it when he handed me another wand. A smile was fixed on his face. Sure of this one but then it all failed. His face screwed up as he returned.
Another ten wands were used before he handed me one and stepped back. Preparing for a bang but it was warming my hand. I felt a similar buzz to when I got the first letter and when I waved it light shot from it. A smile on all of our faces as my wand had been found. The wand being paid for as I picked up my bag and cat before walking out again.
"Right, we can go back or I have another hour. Do you fancy a drink in The Leaky Cauldron?" I gave a strong nod and we were moved around again. Some faint metal collided as the scales moved around in my bag and a smile lit up my face as we got to the place where I was pulled in.
When we sat, two butter beers were ordered and only a second later they arrived. Both large and my eyes could barely take it all in but I did. Then we began talking. It turned out she was the brightest witch of her age and a Gryffindor. I also learnt that her house and my family's usual house didn't get on all that well.
"So what about you? How were you at school? Your favourite subject. What about home?" She was just a curious girl and I could admire her mind as it looked like it could run for miles.
"Well, I did well in my exams. I mean, my teachers said that they were proud of me. I am determined that is for sure. Maths and science are my favourite subjects. I suppose they aren't studied in the same way though. That doesn't matter. I'm a child that was in care. Got adopted a while back but mum and dad passed. Horrible car crash. My sister was adopted too. Her and her husband adopted me though so we spend a lot of time together." I was sipping on the drink before me as I tried not to say too much. Only Hermione knew that there was more so I spoke to her a little more.
"Adelaide didn't take it too well. That doesn't matter because she is getting better. The baby helps as well because he distracts her. What about you? You said that you were Muggle born to two lovely parents but not much else. Siblings?" She shook her head and we sat in silence for a while."No siblings. Two lovely parents and after the war we are talking more. They don't get the magic part of my life well. I did things that weren't good but it was for their good. All sorted now." I smiled at her and drank some more before finally we both seemed to finish at the same time.
"Are you the only one returning from your three?" She nodded and I wanted to relate but the truth was that everyone would love her, not many people liked me, even Ollivander seemed to be against me. That fact wasn't dwelt on for long as the old building was left and we walked the cobbled path so that we had an opening to apparate again. I felt ready to throw up just at the thought so this one wouldn't be so good but as the sun was setting I figured it was time for me to get back.
"Right, I will need to know where you live so that we can get back quickly. Picture it as well please." I nod and my mind went blank for a second but I slowly remembered and replied with my address and promise to imagine it. Just as she had asked of me.
Her hand met mine and my eyes slipped to the small kitten. She was going to be in for a rough one as she had no clue what was about to happen but as we got ready I smiled. Relaxing myself some more and then my feet got light. I felt my head squeeze and expand at once. Pain ran all over me and the sensation of crying filled my face and saliva left and then filled my mouth before my heart seemed to shatter and my eyes fogged.
As soon as my feet hit the floor the hand on my arm tightened and she kept me up. Stopping me from the inevitable falling and then she let go as I moved steadily again. The sick feeling filled me and my lips dried but I let my hands place the objects on the floor around me.
"It does get better. I promise and I mean, it sucks to begin with, side apparation is the worst but it is hardly anything for me now." I nodded and lifted my things and opened my eyes. Noticing the street that I had grown up on. My eyes darted around and my legs moved to my house. Hermione followed me as I did this. The door only metres away and I turned.
"Thank you." She waved it off and gave me one of her best hugs. I returned it as best I could before my arms would give way. Her eyes met mine and we both smiled. It reaching both of our eyes and then I turned. Opening the door and Adela meeting me with a sense of urgency.
I turned to see if she was still there but sure enough a loud pop told me that she had to go elsewhere and I smiled remembering her. The way she made me feel like I deserved to be happy. Only Adela and her husband had managed to do that. That was new as I had no questions plaguing me and my body was so warm as the day was remembered.
"Tell me all about the day." I nodded but placed my things down before thinking it over again and I ran to my room. Changing into shorts and a crop top for bed. Letting my mind rest for a little while. The day had been a big one and when I came back down the two sat waiting. The baby was clearly asleep in his bed and so I sat on the armchair.
"We went to a Diagon Alley. Went shopping. Oh I have a cat. Don't worry, she is trained to go outside and to top it all off, I have a wand and cauldron. Just like in The Worst Witch. We had a drink of something I have forgotten. It was something butter related and I made friends with the girl that is head girl, she is in the red house," I blabbed and they seemed to want more as they pushed for more answers until the clock hit midnight and they seemed too tired to ask anything else.
"Good night, sweetheart." I hugged him and then Adela. She was holding tight and then we all walked up the steps. Brushing my teeth and then climbing into bed. Exhausted and ready to sleep for a full year. If only given the opportunity.
