*Bonnie POV*

"Bonnie, I know about your father." Carlisle spoke as soon as the door closed behind Edward and Michael.

"Well Michael certainly doesnt beat about the bush, does he?" I smiled sarastically, avoiding Carlisle's gaze.

"Here. This will help with the pain." Carlisle handed me a small plastic tub with two colourful pills. After swallowing them dry, I open my eyes to see Carlisle holding a glass of water.

"Jees, pain must be over bearing." He laughs.

"You have no idea." I accidentally let a giggle escape my lips.

"Your really brave Bonnie, I dont know how you do it." He sits at the edge of my hospital cot.

"You have no idea." I repeat, fiddling with the rug trying to avoid eye contact. I cant look into his disapproving eyes, because then I'll start disapproving my behaviour also, and I shouldnt. I'm pissed at Michael. He disobeyed my wishes and that is not okay. I know he was trying to help, but he doesnt know whats at stake if my father finds out. His life.

"Here, drink this. Those pills couldnt taste nice dry." He says, flashing his kind, pearly white smile and handing me the water. As I grab it, my fingers touch his. I cant stand this any longer, curiousity was always my let down.

"How come your so cold all the time?" I bring the glass to my lips and let the ice cold water sooth my burning throat. My throat aches after all the screaming and shouting.

"All the time? You've only met me." He laughs, standing from the cot and walking with his back to me, towards the window which unleashes the forest in front of my bewildered eyes. Catching sight of the forest for the first time, I scramble from the cot, jump down, almost tripping on the rug which landed on the floor and slowly but surely limp to beside Carlisle. It's so beautiful, the way the colours blend into each other, and how the faint light of the house and moonlight illuminate the trees shapes and sizes. I got lost in the sight of the nature and I'm pulled from the moonlight by Carlisle clearing his throat. Jumping from my daze, I finally register I was in the middle of interrogating this smooth talking ice cold doctor.

"Well for the," I glance to the clock on the wall, it was 9:30pm, "last two hours or so, youve been like a freezer. Why?" I never take my eyes of the forest in front of my blood shot eyes.

"Its Forks, Bonnie. And its two weeks until Christmas. I think I'm intitled to be a little cold." He says with a smooth smile. I laugh- mostly at myself- at my stupidity. Obviously.

"Sorry" I say with my best smile and laugh. I rock on my toes to heel as Carlisle stands rock solid beside me, staring out the window into the moonlight.

After a few moments of silence, I cant keep the question in any longer.

"Why do you care?" I ask, looking up to Carlisle. He looks down at me with an odd look on his pale, moonlit face. HE purses his lips and stares towards the window again, thick arms crossed before at me again and sighs.

"Why wouldnt I?"

"Not a good enough answer."

"No, seriously. Think about it Bonnie. Honestly, why wouldnt I care about you and Michael?"

"Because... we're... us? I dont know." I sigh, "nobody else took interest in our well being before, why would you?" I was honestly unprepared to answer this question.

"Bonnie, Im an opportunist.  I see something- or in this case someone- who I think I can help, or develop, I try my damnedest to do it. I see you two, and I want to help. We want to help." He gestures towards the door Edward just exited through. "And I know for a fact they'll will too." He smiles and nods his head in the general direction of out the window and on the driveway. I look down, confused, to see five moonlit figures standing on the concrete driveway.
