Pisces looked up from his ragged hammock that had housed him for at least two nights.
The colors were dull and unattractive to a normal eye, but to Pisces they were a gift that came to him for his new record of resisting the urge to snatch a wallet out of the back pocket of a business mans loose coat.
The wind was constantly shifting direction, it was impatient to make a billowing storm.
Pisces stared at the brick wall that towered several stories above him.
A box sheltered him from the harsh conditions that oh so loved Chicago, the box only covered half of his head so the breeze lightly cooled his features.
" You know you can't just sit there and sulk all day right?" A girl said in a monotone voice as she crawled out of a gash in the metal that held up the seventh story.
" I know, but gotta be here for the team right!" Pisces said as he sat up from his hammock that had been hammered into a plywood board that leaned on the nearby wall. He grimaced as he got up and the wood creaked and split to tiny splinters in the centered spot.
" Hmph, no, nota, zilch, not gonna happen, you need to be resting, the team can handle themselves, I can handle myself!" She argued clearly not backing down, she never did.
" Why are you even here aren't you supposed to be prepping for the days hike?""Umm, no, well maybe..... but that's beside the point, you need to be out and helping if your not going to sleep!", she shouted over the bustling cities wind wall.
Pisces sighed and grabbed a canteen, drinking down the filtered water that the search team brought back. The water had tiny particles swimming around in it although nobody really cared, everyone drank out of it every day. " Come on....Li-Bruh" he smirked, earning a slap to the face from Libra.
"Don't call me that you nitwit!" she laughed, but in the end giving him a glare showing she meant it. She then skipped off casually scanning the area for the group that she had been with for approximately six years.
The group had been made in 2007, which was when Libra was born, the year now was 2028. Many VR games had been established, but for the kids that couldn't make enough money for the gear were left in the dust of bandwagon.
The gang's mission for the past couple of weeks has been to earn enough to by the gear for each member of the group, and from there, well it's easy to just say that it would be a great escape from the rundown world they had now.
Most jobs were in-game now, so in that case it was always hard to find a decent pay-up price.
The only members that had jobs were Capricorn, Pisces, Leo, and Sagittarius.
The jobs barely had any salaries, mostly a pitiful 50c at the end of the day.Cap and Leo worked as fast food workers, the problem was that so many people were in-game that nobody ate at places like fast food that much.
On the other side of the table Sag and Pi worked as janitors for the morgue, you couldn't die while playing a game so there really wasn't much need for workers. You would think the government would think about this, well they have and they've been handing out free no interview jobs to the homeless. Although like everything else fun, they would check your criminal record. And none of the gang had a clear one of those since 1998, a year when none of them existed.
They headed towards Damen Silos an abandoned museum.
This was their base home, the home that they always went to when they got back from a two-day scouting expedition.
Libra walked towards the carved out entrance, and opened the doors slightly as she slipped in. She always did it, like she was a spy or something, even though she knew she didn't have to nobody was ever watching. As for Pisces, he opened up the doors wide, making himself at home.
And it was just that, home.
Home for the homeless, ironic.
Illegal abode for the freaks.
To everyone else the aurora of the museum was dilapidated, but to the gang this was home sweet abandoned museum. The inside was a crippled mess, pieces of the former wall were on the floor, making it a challenge to even get to the main room. In place of the roof were flimsy metal beams, the roof always trembled when a small storm came. What was left of the walls was covered in graffiti, lots of devils and wings cluttered the art.
The gangs name was long " broken wings are the devil", but the public shortened it to "Devil's Wings".
An obnoxious screech came from the next room over, the couple turned the lights on to two teenagers scraping knives on the ground.
"Hey! Do you have parents?!" A female behind them asked in a sweet-yelling voice, "Yes m'am-m" the male of the group replied, quickly reaching for his friends arm. "Do they abuse you?" The kid copied his sentence again, this time daring a steep towards his knife that had long since clattered to the ground. "Well then leave the knife and scram!" It's marveling how fast a kid can run when persuaded.
Aries walked towards the knife and swiped it, the label was of a cheap brand that had been taken of the market for not selling enough. "Hmph, thought that they would have something better on him."
The carving showcased two hearts, one with a G+A and the other with a T+L. Libra pointed to the rough edges, "They've never carved before." She stated as if everyone should know how to carve. The rest of the walk through the museum was uneventful, that is if you don't count a rat almost scaring the livings out of Pisces. Aries trailed after them occasionally stopping to do a little devil doodle with the spray can she held.
The walk was for the most part silent, so when they reached the main building the quiet aura was completely demolished. Chatter and bickering echoed and then ceased as all eyes found the center of attention, Pisces, Libra, and Aries.
A brunette stood up and tossed two backpacks to Libra and Pisces, Aries slipped over to where a black Osprey laid.
Libra caught hers and set to work gathering up tiny trinkets and other junk she carried with her.
" Thank you Taurus, Scorp go ahead and scout out the perimeter of the base, no witnesses of the group!" Pisces shouted to the retreating figure of Scorpio.
The "group" consisted of 12 members, all young adults living a life of shame. This shame came from their parents, the 12 were all abandoned for the necessity that their parents thrive.
The new and "improved" system made it to where the more children the worse, money had to be lauded monthly to live and care for a child. So here they all were, some of them even being a second or third child. Three that was the limit, children were killed if the maximum was breached.
But I'm talking to fast let's let the story explain itself.
Oh me, I'm just the author you can call me Gwen.
