[Jade's Pov]
-

After nearly an hour of wandering around town in the abominable blackness, I arrived at the hospital. Dreadfully walking to the front desk asking the woman how he was doing. She did a bit of typing, pulling up his report I guess.

"he's in surgery. He's suffering from internal bleeding, some broken bones, and possible mild brain damage" her voice lowered as she finished. "When can I see him?". She shrugged. " It could be hours, visiting hours are ending soon for nonrelatives," she said.

"How you know I'm not his sister?"

"I don't, that's why we're trying to get his medical records or a least contact his family...Do you know any of your family's contact information? I know nothing, except that his parents want nothing to do with him until he gets his act together, his sister lives out the country and his brother left home almost three years ago. He doesn't have anyone.

"Do you?" the woman asked again. I shook my head no. "Well, then I guess you're not his sister," she said, almost teasing making me roll my eyes. "You may take a seat or exit the building."

Hours passed; it was approaching three. Before I could close my eyes I felt a tap on my knee making my eyes shoot open. It was the woman at the desk.

"Are you from around here?" she almost said whispering. I shook my head. "Where you from?" she was speaking in an informal tone. "Jersey," I whispered. "What are you doing in Atlanta? I'm also guessing that the boy is your friend or something."

"Why do you care?". "Because I want a good reason why I should let you see him right now," she said firing back. "He's awake?"I said. "No... But he's out of surgery and I was informed that he should wake up pretty soon," she said. She stared, waiting for me to speak. I sighed. "look he was there for me when I didn't want him to be....So as much as he hates me and probably doesn't even want to see me...when he wakes up but I'll be here" I shrugged figuring out the words pretty quickly.

"Honey... he might not even remember why he hates you when he wakes up," she said. A simple "oh" past my lips almost confused. I knew what brain damage was. It could be temporary or permanent. The woman motioned me to follow her; making me finally take notice in her name tag. Carly Miller. Weird.

She stopped outside the room door. #247. She turned to me preparing to speak. "Like I said before he is suffering from mild brain damage"

"I got it" I cut her off.

"meaning he might not remember certain memories or people. He can remember you and may of forgot moments with you."

"I literally know what brain damage is," I said my voice laced with annoyance. I tried reaching for the handle, her hand smacking mine away.

"prepare yourself!" her tone so severe.

She finally twisted the knob; opening the door. The room was pretty spacious and there was even a little nightlight reflecting blue with the help of the moonlight shining in creating a peaceful setting. The low beats of the machine eventually reminding me why I'm in here.

I turned to look at the poor boy resting. Bruises showed all over his body that wasn't covered. My eyes viewed each one I could see; mixes of red and blue, some purple. Bandages all over including his head. His leg were hanging from what looks like the ceiling. My face fell.

He looked like he was in so much pain. That's when the guilt of everything hit; the state he was in made me feel shameful. This all leads back to me, everything he's been through could have been prevented. I thought to myself, If he doesn't remember me when he wakes up I can walk away; give him a second chance. But if he does, I still have no other choice but to let him go. My lifestyle was never good for him, and it never will be.
