I stood at the side of the road, stammering all over the place keeping my thumb held high. I felt exhausted and sick. My drink was most likely spike. I fell to my knees in the light gravel, bruising my tanned skin. I glanced up hearing a car pull over. "Please help!." my voice was faint.
"Jade?" I heard a familiar voice. I glanced up seeing the dark-haired boy. "Oh god!" He said quickly bending down and helping me up. I felt so lightheaded I practically fell into his arms. I had the urge to vomit walking towards his car. I pushed him off me throwing up my entire stomach right on the side of the road. I felt his touch as he grabbed a handful of my hair gently.
He laid me down on the backseat. My eyes felt so heavy. "I'll take care of you" I heard him say.

4:23 am
I woke up in a bed, unfamiliar with where I was. I jumped up, instantly regretting it. I grabbed on to my head. It's running a mile.
"Woah Woah Woah" I heard. Noticing the boy was in the room. He guided me back to the bed.
"How did I get here?" I said. "Shh," he said. "No," I said, my voice slightly rising. "Can you shut up before my mom hears you." He said in a harsh tone.
"I found you on the side of the road, not too far from the county bar." He said, flashes of last night coming back to me.
"What happened?" He said, brushing his finger against my cheek. I winced. "Sorry," he said.
"I was hustling," I said trying to avoid the topic. I was embarrassed about it.
"Why were you at a bar?"
"Gotta make money one way or another," I said. "You work at the bar?"
I shook my head. "Not technically."
I watched him, hoping he'll read between the lines. saving me from explaining.
"Jade..."
"Don't look at me like that!" I said.
"Everything was fine. It was all fine. I've done it plenty of times I thought... what could go wrong. I was gonna just wait till he got drunk enough and take his wallet. Turns out this guy spiked my drink. I was fine until we went to the bathroom."
I sighed.
"I was digging in his pockets while he was kissing on my neck. He thought I was trying to touch him at first. I started feeling dizzy after that"
—
he turned me around, slamming me against the wall.
"you thought it was gonna be that easy huh?" his whispers were full of aggression. I winced at the pressure.
"You gonna have to do something for me if you want my money that bad." He said. His hand gliding up my side, lifting my shirt.
I head-butted him, causing him to let go. I made my way to the door.
"You bitch!" I heard.
I walked back out to the crowd of people, feeling even worst than before. I wobbled to the door; feeling like I could breathe again.
—
"I dropped the wallet," I said.
"Is that all you care about? you could have died!" he said managing to yell but not letting his volume be above a whisper.
"It's really none of your business" I scoffed. "It is if I'm the one picking you up from the side of the road."
"I didn't ask you"
"It was a possible chance he could have forced you to have sex with him and you don't care. It's like you're okay prostituting yourself" he said. The words burning into my brain.
"I have things I need to do! I have to make my way." I said.
"There are other ways Jade—"
"Not for me. I don't have what you have. Stop comparing our lives because we are nothing alike!" I said. He remained silent.
"So you had sex for money before?" He asked. the words coming from him made it sound disgusting.
"Only if I wanted to," I said.
He nodded.
"I didn't offer myself. It was all in the moment."
"You can take another Advil if your head is still hurting" he pointed to the small end table, as he got up making his way back to the small area he made on the floor.
"How did you know what to do? I thought you didn't drink" I asked.
"I've been taking care of my brother since we were sixteen. He used to sneak out and I covered for him. Laying in his bed in case our parents came in, knowing they wouldn't dare check on me. Then he came home three in the morning slurring, throwing upon himself. Just a mess... But I helped him every time." He said.
"I wasn't gonna leave you out there alone to die," he said.
