Behind School Building C, a stereotypical scene was taking place.
A stuttering, blushing mess of a second year boy clutched the fabric of his uniform pressed pants and chewed the inside of his cheek. He had been trying and failing to admit his feelings for the picturesque innocent girl in front of him for a few heart stopping minutes now. Said girl still had the slightly crumpled piece of notebook paper that had a foretelling, "Please meet me behind building c after school" written on it in her left hand.
"Satoru?" the girl questioned, shifting her weight from one foot to the other. The boy's face flushed a deeper shade of red (if that was even possible) as her soft feminine voice continued, "What did you want to meet me about?"
"Er — well," Satoru stuttered and shot forward a shaky step. "I — um, I just wanted to say — " he bowed quickly and squeezed his eyes shut, bracing himself, " — I just want to say that I've liked you for a while Miho and I think you're really pretty and if you want, maybe we could go out sometime!"
Meanwhile, in the classrooms of Building C, one boy had caught the exchange below through the windows. The broom in his grip (it was his turn to sweep the club's floor today) splintered. His knuckles turned white and his shocked expression quickly morphed into one of pure hatred. A furious hot flower named Jealousy was blooming in his chest — and it was blooming with thorns.
Blind with the hot, impulsive feeling, the boy abandoned his chores. The broom cracked against the tile as the boy nearly stormed out of the classroom. But something metal caught his attention and he paused right before the door. With a curious glint in his eye, he approached the box cutter sitting on one of the empty desks. It must've been left here when everyone unpacked the new pencil toppers for the student council.
Akihiko didn't give it much more thought than that. He simply shoved it in his pocket and threw the door open. The door quivered as it was slammed shut in the blink of an eye behind the seething schoolboy.
Akihiko never felt so furious. He couldn't quite name this untamable monster that was roused whenever his Miho was being confessed to — paid attention to — spoken to — looked at.
He could tame it most days, as long as Miho didn't have anyone... If Miho wasn't involved with anyone, then Akihiko convinced himself it was fine. All fine. Because she was his — even if she didn't know it yet herself.
All in time, he thought darkly before launching himself down the stairs. Why does the clubroom have to be on the third floor?! he snarled impatiently in his head. That boy could have sunken his filthy fingers in my Miho before I could ever even make it to the second floor of this building.
Back behind School Building C, Miho had never felt so awkward in her life. With teeth sinking into her bottom lip for a beat, she gripped the front of her skirt and admitted to the boy.
"I'm — I'm sorry, Satoru," she flushed prettily. Not because she had any feelings, but because she felt guilty and put on the spot because she didn't have any feelings. At least, not for Satoru. "I'm, um," she tucked a perfect brunette lock behind her ear, "I'm not really interested in dating right now. I'm focusing more on my studies. Um, sorry Satoru!"
She quickly bowed and fled the scene. By some horrible act of coincidence, she rounded the building on the opposite side of where Akihiko, yandere and stalker extraordinaire, burst forth from the back of Building C.
As Miho quickly left the schoolgrounds in peaceful bliss, Akihiko rounded the building and was met with the desolate scene of no Miho — but at least there was Miho's filthy assaulter, he assuaged his wilting hope of seeing the girl. Without hesitation, Akihiko reached for the box cutter he had shoved in his pants pocket. His thumb moved and the blade clicked slowly open.
