Day 1

The sun shines lightly through the window as I sit up in the bed. Today's the first day of the tests. I feel numb, though it must be from the amnesia. I sit in bed and wait for a doctor or nurse to come for me. After about ten minutes, the door opens.

"Good morning Sora." The nurse from yesterday says, walking over. "The first test will be a couple doors down from here, Alright?" He asks. I nod and lower myself out of the bed, following him out of the door. He leads me to a room with double doors labeled simply "Unit". "What's going to happen to me in there?" I ask, quickening my pace to catch up to the nurse. "This area is for people who have something similar or identical to the illness you have. We will just be running simple tests in here, like blood tests, and compare it to the other patients in here." I listen intently as he explains, while looking around the room. "We can't identify the illness you or the other people here have, so we'll run tests and search for a cure."

He leads me to a separate room and opens the door, revealing a room with dark gray walls and glowing computers. "Take a seat." He says, pointing to a large chair connected to a computer. I sit, and he lightly pushes me to lean back in it. I listen to him typing away on one of the computers, and soon the door reopens revealing Doctor Saito. "You're dismissed, Pao." The nurse gets up and leaves quickly, quietly shutting the door behind him.

"Alright, can you look straight up for me?" Doctor Saito says. I look up like she asks, and quickly close my eyes against the harsh light. "Try to hold them open for me sweetie. Only for a bit." I try to fight the instinct to shield my eyes and open them, staring directly into the light. Not long after, the light turns off, and I'm left trying to get my eyes to readjust to the darkness of the room. "Pupils slow to dilate..." I hear the doctor mumble. "What was that for?" I ask, trying to find her shape in the dark. "Just trying to monitor the basic functions, seeing how this illness might be affecting you on the inside." She says. She turns on the light in the room, and has me sit back up.
"Can you stand up for me Sora?" She asks. I comply, standing in front of the chair. "Alright, now I want you to stand up straight, and walk in a straight line to the door." She says, pulling out a clipboard. This has to be easy. I straighten my posture, and start forward. I do well, until about half way there when my knee gives out, and I fall. "That's new..." I say, sucking in a breath. "We believe that this illness weakens the body, so we'll do daily tests on your strength." She says, helping me up. Pao comes back in and leads me back to the room, where my parents and Haruki are waiting.

As soon as he sees me, he scoops me up in his arms. "I missed you." I say into his neck, holding him tighter. "I missed you too." He replies, kissing my forehead. I spend the rest of the day with my parents and Haruki, enjoying every moment I have with them.
