I watch other cars pass as we drive back to my house. I look over at Haruki, only to see him focused on the road. "Hey.. Haruki?" I ask quietly. "What?" He snaps, sounding annoyed. "Why are you mad?" "Why do you think? It's because you-," "You're mad at me." I say, hurt. "What? No. Sora listen." His voice softens. "I'm not.... I could never be mad at you. I'm just worried." "About what?" I shift to get a better look at his face. He glances over to me before turning back to the road. "I don't want you getting hurt. And for him to tell you the things he did.... That you can't.. You shouldn't..." His grip on the wheel tightens, and his knuckles turn white. "Hey. I'll be okay, I promise. I'll call you when I need to, I'll come over when I need to. I'll be okay, Haruki." He nods, and pulls into my driveway. I kiss his cheek and walk up to my door. Here goes nothing.
"Sora you're home!!!" My mom exclaims, pulling me into an embrace. "Hey mom. How are you?" I ask, softening my voice. "Better now that you're here! Come, sit! I'll make some pancakes!" My mom rushes into the kitchen, humming a little song. I set down my suitcase and sit on the couch, looking at down at my hands. "Where's dad?" I ask hesitantly. "Oh... He's at your uncle's place." My mom replies from the kitchen. So he doesn't even want to be here when I'm here. Lovely. My mom brings out the pancakes, and I listen to her talk about her tv shows. "Mom I think I'll go take a nap." I say, getting up. "Oh alright! Your father should be back later." She says, reaching for the tv remote. I grab my suitcase and walk up the stairs to the room.I'm on a surgery table. Why am I on a surgery table? The room is dark, with only a bright overhead light. Quiet voices echo around the room, and I can hear the scratching of pen on paper. I try to talk, but no sound comes out. A face suddenly appears above me, and I realize it's a doctor. "Now Sora, don't panic. Just relax." Doctor Saito says. Why is she here?? Why am I here??? Doctor Saito lowers a mask over my face. "Breathe in as I count down alright?" No I don't want to be here. I have to get out of here!
"Ten...... Nine...... Eight....."
There's got to be a way to get these restraints to loosen.
"Five..... Four.... Three...."
I have to.. Get out...
"One."
