A lot has happened in the brief hours from when I knocked out to now. Haruki informed me on what happened when he got in the room. He said that I looked pale and when he tried to talk to the doctor, she brushed him off saying it was because I'll have surgery soon. He then called my parents, wondering if they knew about this. When they didn't, he had taken me out of the hospital and driven me home. My parents and Haruki then took shifts looking over me for about two hours, saying there were moments where I'd stop breathing entirely.
When I finally come to, it's because I'm awoken from a nightmare. Haruki is there in an instant, wrapping me in his arms and rocking me back and forth, assuring me that I'm okay. "Everything's fine. I'm right here. I've got you." He whispers soothingly in my ear. I nod through the tears, clutching him tighter. "What scared you so bad?" He asks, pulling away to look into my eyes. "I d-didn't listen and she said she was going to..... Oh god you died!!" I wail, burrowing my face into his shirt. "Hey, hey. I'm right here. Nothing happened. I'm still here." He says, wiping away my tears. I hold onto him until I calm down, and all you can hear is the thrum of our heartbeats together.
"Sora? Are you feeling up for lunch?" My mom asks. It's the day after that hospital trip, and I haven't left my bed. I slowly walk down the stairs, and into my mom's open embrace. "It'll be okay. Sit down and eat." She says, smoothing my hair and placing a bowl of ramen in front of me. I eat it slowly, my mind running a mile a minute. "So what are we gonna do?" I ask, looking up at my parents. "What do you mean?" My father asks, looking up from his book. "Well the doctors. You guys have already payed them. What are we gonna do?" "Well.... We were going to see if we could find a different doctor there..." My dad shares a look with my mom.
"You're sending her back!?!" Haruki exclaims, frozen in place at the front door. "Haruki....." My mom starts, sympathy softening her features. "No. No! You can't send her back! That doctor could have killed her for all we know!" Rage starts to slowly take over his features. "We reported that doctor, Haruki. She'll have a different one." My dad says, voice going into a don't-argue-with-me tone. Haruki opens his mouth, then closes it and walks back out of the door. "Haruki!" "Let him go, Sora. He needs time to think." My mom says, placing a hand on my shoulder. I lower my head and go back upstairs, leaving most of my food untouched.
Home has been quiet after mention of sending me back. Haruki avoids my parents and my dad has been easily irritable lately. I walk past my parents room, but stop short when I hear voices coming through the door. "I love her too, but it's just so much money..." I recognize my father's voice, laced with sadness. "We can't just give up Seojun! I'll just get a side job, yeah?" I hear my dad sigh as my mother drones on about other ways to help. We're short on money because of me. "I think... We should stop treatment. Just let her live the rest of her life without needing doctors." My mother argues with my dad after that, though I am no longer listening. I go back to my room and pull out my laptop. If they need help with pay, it's time for me to get a job.
