~Sweet~ Benjamin Carmine x Reader

"Lieutenant (L/N). We need you to train this new recruit." One of your higher ups ordered. You sighed but nodded, getting up off of the chair you were sitting on.

You were an amazing grub killer and impressed a lot of recruits in your unit. But today you had to train a recruit for Marcus Fenix on Delta Squad. It didn't look like it but you didn't mind.

You followed your higher up until you encountered a man in the signature COG soldier armor. Helmet was different though on closer inspection. The soldier seemed to perk up when he saw you. You found amusement when you watched his body stiffen before swinging his arm into a salute position.

"What's your name, new kid?" You ask, folding your arms behind your back. The recruit seemed to stutter before clearing his throat.

"Benjamin Carmine, Ma'am!" Benjamin blurted out. You nod before looking at your higher up.

"I'll train this kid then send him to Marcus Fenix. Thanks for the opportunity." You gave a kind smile before walking closer to the newbie soldier. Benjamin seemed to look at you with wonder as you cleared your throat.

"Alright, Carmine. Let me bring you to the training grounds where we can practice target practice and cover. Ever handled a gun?" You ask as Benjamin perks up with an 'Ooo!' in response.

"My brother was in the COG. Anthony Carmine. Although, he was KIA... I wanted to follow in his footsteps so I enlisted into the COG." Benjamin explained as you nodded. You placed a hand on his shoulder as he looked down. You remembered the incident with his brother.

Anthony Carmine was indeed KIA. His gun had jammed and has he was fixing it a Locust Sniper had wiped him out. You cursed at how flimsy the COG helmets were.

"I'm truly sorry about your brother, Carmine. He was a good man and great soldier. I'm sure you will be too." You reassured as you pat his shoulder.

"Lieutenant..?" Benjamin asked as you looked at him. He probably had a question about the training exercise you were about to do.

"Yes, Carmine?" You asked as he thought about his next words. Was it a touchy subject? Training questions aren't really that touchy- maybe he was just nervous.

"Have you ever lost...some one you cared about?" Benjamin asked as he looked at you through his visor. Well that question hit hard.

"Well...Um...yes. The Locust took my sibling away. Similar to how your brother was. And I am damn well determined to make them pay." you growled out as you recalled the memory.

Benjamin seemed to stiffen, before letting out a small sad noise before hugging you suddenly. You gave a confused expression before awkwardly hugging back with one arm.

"I'm so...sorry!" he whimpered while continuing to make odd sad noises.

"Ah...Erm... We couldn't do anything about that situation." you mutter, trying to comfort the new recruit. "Although, that gives us all the more motivation to eradicate the grubs" you grin as the new recruit looks up at you, seeming to feel better.

"Y-Yeah! And you're gonna help me?" Benjamin asks as you nod.

"Yes, Carmine. I will train you." you rub his helmet, handing him a Lancer.

It had taken 2 months to cram all the info that Benjamin needed into his head. Really all you had to do was train him about various weapons and cover along with locust weaknesses. You knew a lot of these things because you were on the battlefield for awhile.

You walked Benjamin across the base, ready to give him to Delta Squad. You felt Benjamin stop and pull on your hand, you looked back at Benjamin.

"Uhm...Lieutenant. I'm gonna miss you when i'm fighting. I think we bonded quite well... I hope to visit you some day!" Benjamin confesses as you smile.

"Awe Benjamin...That's sweet. I hope we meet again soon. Do me proud." You laugh as you escort him to Marcus.

"Thanks (Y/N) for training him." Marcus thanks as you nod, saluting.

"Thanks, sir. Take good care of him." you smile as you waved Delta team today.

You hoped you'd see Benjamin soon.
