I walked into the bathroom, and carefully shut and locked the door behind me, looking around. It was a nice bathroom, with flower print wallpaper, and all the showering necessities. I set my clean clothes down on the toilet, and carefully pulled my dirty ones off, debating for a second, before throwing them in the trash. I slowly stepped into the shower, and closed the curtain, turning the hot water on. I grabbed some body wash, and winced, as I washed my skin, seeing blood and dirt wash down the drain. I placed my hands flat against the shower wall, then began crying,as memories flooded my brain. I knew they were wondering what must have happened to me, but I couldn't tell them. Even if I wanted to, the memories always brought back the fear and anger I'd worked hard to push deep inside of me, and I couldn't let that loose on those kind and brave people. Not when it was my own fault for getting shot. I sighed, and slowly washed my hair, then turned off the shower, and stepped out onto the rug on the floor, dripping water everywhere.
I grabbed my clean clothes, and slowly pulled them on, wincing as my new shot wound throbbed against the waistband of my pants. I didn't bother looking in the mirror, afraid of what I might see, and walked as quickly as I could out of the bathroom. I froze, as I saw a familiar face digging through the contents of my bag on the floor, and frowned. "You know, it's one thing for your friend to be a dick, and dump my shit out for the world to see..But when you go digging through it like a damn raccoon, I draw the line. Hands off my stuff, Annie Oakley!" Maggie looked up, anger glinting in her eyes. "What'd you call me?" I sat down on the floor, grabbing my backpack, and started shoving everything back in, except the weapons, which were gone; I wasn't surprised by that at all, or all that worried about them being gone. I was more worried about my personal items that she was rubbing her fingers all over.
She muttered, "You know, you seemed a bit nice when you saved me from that Walker, but now, you're acting like a real bitch." I froze, realising something very important to me was missing from my stuff. I whispered, "I don't give a damn if you shot me..Give me that picture back, or I'll hurt you." She frowned, and replied, "I don't have any idea what you're talking about. I was looking, that's all. I didn't take any of your stuff." I began shaking, tears welling up in my eyes, and begged, "Please..Is that what you want? Begging? Give it back..It's all I have left of them." Her eyes widened, and she shook her head. "I swear to the good Lord above, I haven't touched any picture, Charlie." Her expression grew more and more worried, as I began breathing hard and fast, having a panic attack. I didn't expect her to scoot closer to me, and gently hug me, or for her to stroke my hair and start whispering, "Shh..It's okay. I'll get Glenn in here to help me look with you. We'll find it, okay? I promise."
Slowly, my breathing returned to normal, and I fell almost completely asleep in that position. I heard footsteps enter the room, and Glenn's voice whisper, "What the hell happened in here? And why is Charlie asleep right there?" I didn't know why, but he almost sounded jealous. Maggie whispered back, "I was looking through her things to see if she's telling us the truth, and a picture she's attached to went missing, and she started panicking. I couldn't just let her pass out on the floor. Not after I shot her, Glenn. Here, help me get her on the bed." I felt myself lifted by two pairs of hands, and Glenn whispered, "Well, until we know for sure she's not gonna kill us, I want you to stay away from her..Please." Maggie sighed, and whispered, "Alright..At least help me look for that picture." After that, I fell asleep completely, and didn't wake up again until it was dark outside.
I opened my eyes, hearing lowered voices from another room, and slowly sat up. I blinked, dimly remembering what happened earlier, and turned my head, finding the picture I had lost on the dresser beside me, along with a note that read, "Glenn found this under the bed. I don't know why it means so much to you, but I understand that you can't lose it..I'm sorry for going through your things like that, but I have to keep my family safe, you know? I just wanted to make sure you weren't here to hurt us. But I swear, I never meant to make you so upset. ~Maggie" I grabbed the picture, and the note, and stood up, shoving them both into my backpack, then slowly walked out of the room, towards the sound of the voices. As I entered what seemed to be the kitchen, all conversation stopped, and Rick walked over to me, smiling a bit. "Hey, Charlie..We didn't think you'd be walking around for awhile, but I'm glad you did. Grab a seat, and make yourself comfortable, and everyone can introduce themselves."
