I could feel numbness spreading through my body, making the pain fade to a dull throb, and wondered where I was being taken, my body dragging through dirt and rocks, firm hands around my wrists. I soon got my answer, as I was flung onto wooden boards of what seemed to be a barn or something, though my brain was too fuzzy at that moment to tell which horrible place I had been sent to. A male voice, one I recognized as one of the Governor's military guys, laughed, and it was all I could do to hold still as he kicked me in the already injured ribs. "Awe, look at this.. She acted like a tough bitch, but even she died. Guess she's not so bad after all.." I felt my heart ache, as I heard Maggie start crying and screaming, but didn't move. "I'll fucking kill you! I'll kill you! You did this to Charlie!" The guy laughed again, and I heard his footsteps walking off.
When I was sure that it was just Maggie, me, and from the sounds of pained breathing, Glenn, I moved, groaning with agony, as I pushed myself into a sitting position. I spat out blood onto the floor, every breath causing sharp pain to lance through my ribs, and was unprepared to be tackled by Maggie, white hot pain instantly assaulting me. She seemed to realize she was hurting me, and instantly let go, scooting back, then looked at me, tears in her eyes. "Charlie? We thought they killed you.." I forced a weak smile, and shook my head. "I might look dead, and smell dead, but I'm still breathing.. I played dead. They got me good, though, so I'm not sure how well I'll be able to try and help get us out of here, and from the looks of Walker Bait, he can't do much, either."
Glenn shot me a dirty look at that, and stood up, his whole body shaking with pain and effort, then walked over to a dead Walker, which I had zero idea of being in the building with us. Maggie and I both watched as he stomped on the arms, blood and gore spurting everywhere, and then, he did a very gross thing, and yanked the arm bones out, bringing one to Maggie, and kept one. I raised an eyebrow, and sighed. "You seem to have forgotten my pretty bone knife, Glenn." He shook his head, and frowned. "I'm sorry, Charlie, but I can't trust you with a weapon.. I don't know if you're on their side or ours." I felt my face heat up with anger, and glared at him. "How stupid are you?! Look at what they did to me! Why the fuck would I help them?? There's no reason for me to do that! But whatever.. Asshole." I glanced at Maggie, and felt my heart break a bit as I could tell she agreed with him.
I scooted away from them the best I could, and looked down, pulling my knees up to my chest. "Fine.. I'll just be over here, playing dead and leaving you guys alone." I went back to my limp position, acting as dead as possible, right as some guards came into the room. I heard the sound of something sharp sinking into flesh, and Maggie and Glenn shouting, and then, the sound of guns cocking dangerously. I must have actually passed out after that, because the next thing I knew, there were guns firing everywhere, and voices shouting from what seemed far away. My body felt cold, and I actually felt fear as I couldn't seem to move or talk, and wondered what was going on, blurry images rushing past my eyes. It occurred to me that someone was carrying me, but I couldn't tell who, though the voice was familiar and comforting, despite the angry swear words coming out of it. That was seconds before a shot rang out loudly, and I felt sharp pain in my chest, the person holding me dropping me as they seemed to be yanked out from under me.
I laid there for what felt like eternity, before familiar arms picked me up, the scent of something like vanilla faint on the person's skin, and instantly calmed down, knowing it was Maggie somehow. I heard her whisper, "It's gonna be alright, Charlie.. We'll take you home, and Daddy can fix you up. Just hold on, and we'll be out of this town.." I felt my eyes drifting shut slowly, and heard her shouting at me to stay awake, but I couldn't, the pain almost as painful as what had happened to me in Woodbury.. Almost, but not quite as terrifying or cruel. I would rather have a thousand bullets hit me, than what the Governor did- I would never get what he took back, not ever, and that thought was what hurt the most. That and the fact that no matter how upset Maggie sounded about me being hurt, she didn't trust me. I mean, I could understand it, obviously, but that didn't make it better, or make it any less painful.
I could faintly make out the sound of metal opening when I woke up again for a few minutes, and the sound of chains clanking together, along with familiar voices asking questions and saying my name. I guess none of them really thought I survived, given how happy they sounded to see me, but Rick's voice was what caught my attention most, along with the words that came out of his mouth. "Charlie isn't who she used to be.. Judging from what Glenn and Maggie told me, she helped the head guy torture and kill innocent people. Even though she was probably forced to do it, I don't think she can be trusted.. We can have Hershel take a look at her and fix her up, but after that, we're going to lock her in a cell, until I can make sure she won't hurt any of us." I slowly fell back into unconsciousness, wondering if I was better off being saved than being forced into murder in Woodbury.. I supposed it was, considering I was at least getting a cell where no one would hurt me, and they weren't trying to kill me, but still, I wasn't exactly sure what I was going to wake up to later on..
