Getting the hang of single life again was not fun. Getting the hang of single life again at the age of thirty-five was horrible. It wasn't the going on dates and romantic dinners that she missed; it was the conversation and adventures that you indulged together that she missed. And the sex. She missed the way you could have it anywhere anytime without having to look for a new partner anytime.
At her age, she couldn't just go to a local bar or dance club to pick up prospective male. Especially not when you have such a recognizable face. So that was the predicament she found herself in as she sipped her coffee on her kitchen.
"So you can't go to dinner with me tonight?" Dakota pouted as she listened to the other person at the other end of the call.
Grace sighed. "I wish I could."
"Please."
"I can't, Dak."
She ran a hand through her hair. "Pretty please."
"I'll try to make it up to you tomorrow night, how about that?"
Dakota twirled her hair around her fingers as she wondered who else she could take to dinner that night. "I don't know what I have planned for tomorrow yet so I'll get back to you on that. Please Grace, can't you reschedule whatever it is you have on and go to dinner with me?"
"I can't, Dak. I have plans already."
She sighed. "Alright then."
"You're not mad at me, are you?"
Dakota shook her head even though Grace couldn't see her. "No, of course not. You made plans already, I understand."
She could feel Grace smile on the other end. "You are doing okay, aren't you?"
"Of course, I am. Don't worry about it, okay?"
"That's good," she said. "Well I gotta go, Daks. See you."
"Bye," she said back before ending the call.
As she sipped more of her coffee, she racked her brain on who else she could call and take to dinner because she was not up to eating dinner alone that night. That had been the case most night than not since her break-up over a month ago with Jason. While it had been easy to end the relationship with Jason, she was finally feeling the drawbacks of not having a boyfriend.
Just then, she felt her phone ring again and looked at the caller ID. Jamie. That brought a smile to her face as they had usually called at night before she went to bed. She had been busy this last month what with the callbacks for Flightless Nation which she would find out later that day if she got the part or not. She had done plenty of screen tests and chemistry tests for Peyton and was beyond excited to know if she had gotten the part or not.
As the month flew by, she had gone out on dozens of occasion with Jamie to coffee runs, meals and golf with her brothers although the latter was spent mostly chatting up with the men and sipping cold lemon tea.
"Hello?"
"Hey, love," came Jamie's heavy voice on the other end.
"What's up?"
"You asked me to give you a hand to get your car to the auto shop?"
Dakota racked her brain; sure enough she remembered asking Jamie for some help but her Dad had sent someone to do it for her. "Right, I completely forgot. Dad sent someone to do it when I went out the other day so it's all taken cared of."
There was a pause. "Okay, then."
"I'm sorry, I should have called earlier to let you know."
"It's fine, love. No worries, no harms done."
