Chapter One

Picking Up the Pieces

A/N:

Welcome to my Fan Fiction! I am so glad to have you joining me on this adventure. As is probably very obvious, I absolutely adore Pokemon. I have always loved it, and it has a very special place in my heart. However, up until this year, I had only seen the first three portions of the anime, and some of Diamond and Pearl. I decided that I was going to sit down and watch every. Single. Episode. I watched Indigo, Orange Islands, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, Unova, Kalos, and of course, Alola, and still getting through that last one, like everyone else right now. It's taken me approximately 6 months or so.

I was especially excited to get to the anime for X & Y, mostly because it was my favorite game out of all of them. I really wanted to see how they did the anime. When I finally made it to that part of the anime, I was completely floored. It was so good, and, in my personal opinion, the best region series out of all of them.

Serena became my favorite Poke Girl, hands down. Her character development, to me, was the best. She was most definitely not the same girl she started out as in the beginning. She started off as a girl with no drive, no ambitions, very dissatisfied with her situation, and was kind of lazy; to being a crazy-hard worker and going after her dream with gusto, and nearly winning the competition she wanted the title for. She became more brave, upbeat, and positive.

I also loved the sweet story arc between her and Ash. It was very apparent to me that Ash also held strong affection for her, more so than the other girls he travelled with. Serena knew how to handle Ash in a way none of the other girls did. This led to me being very strongly an Amourshipper. Haha.

My story takes place in a region that I created called Persici. Ash and Serena meet up again and begin travelling together. They are both fourteen when they head off together there. This story deals with the difficulties of that age, and them working through those difficulties together, both physical as well as emotional challenges. They also travel with some individuals that expand their world and teach them some difficult truths. I do want to offer a warning: there may be some subjects in this story that may be a little difficult or triggering for some readers, especially in regard to challenges that Serena has to face. I want to give a heads up on that before we begin. I am hoping that this story will be inspiring, exciting, as well as offering up some good laughs.

That being said, this story is a prequel. Persici was originally created as a region for a character I made to be my Pokemon alter ego, which you will meet in the next story, if you decide to keep up with it that long. This Prequel basically sets the stage to help you understand the way things end up in the main story line; such as specific characters and where they end up, and why certain things are the way they are in Persici.

Also, I love writing to music. For each chapter, I'll also provide some songs that inspired them. I'm hoping that maybe it will add to the reading experience.

So there we go! Welcome to Pokemon Mind and Heart: The Persici Prequel.

Songs:

Stand By You, by Rachel Platten (I consider this to be the overall theme song for this Prequel)

Courage, by Orianthi

Waiting for Superman, by Daughtry

Serena zipped up the garment bag inside of her locker that contained the blue and pink dress she wore for the finals in the Sinnoh grand festival. She should be happy, but, all she could feel was sad and exhausted. She glanced down at the blue ribbon in her hand. It was crumpled, and it a little dirty. She loved that ribbon so much and it was so precious to her. She knew she could get it straightened and cleaned somehow, but it still made her sad to see it treated that way. She then gingerly touched her cheek were she had been struck. It was already feeling extremely tender. There would definitely be a bruise there; of that she had no doubt.
