Chapter Eighteen.
Cole's POV
I was looking through my window, while sitting in a blue crew cab pickup truck, Mitch was in the front with a man called Bruce.
We had flown for ten hours to get to Colorado to meet Mitch's Mom, I have never felt so nervous, Bruce was a friend of Mitch's Mom, she had an issue on the ranch and asked for him to collect us at the airport or that was what Bruce had explained.
Mitch had explained on the plane, that the place was called Loveland, and that his Mom had a ranch called Four Harts, it surprised me that Mitch had grown up on a ranch while he was with his Mom, I always thought he was a city person, for the fact he lives in New York now with his father's business, which officially is London at the moment, but it’s a temporary position, but was I also temporary?
That's all I could think about was the proposal, I kept the ring that he gave me but on the other hand as he placed it there on that evening.
I was confused, in love, nervous amongst other things, but it was a big step also what was I supposed to do follow him to New York, nope I kept asking questions that were going around in my head and not knowing the answers.
We arrived at a gate with a long drive, fenced on both sides of the road, you could just see the house with barns from a distance, it looked a beautiful place.
Mitch turned his head to me
"This is what I call home?" He had a genuine smile, that made me feel warm inside, I smiled back, it was infectious.I knew Mitch had a rocky relationship with his father, and preferred living with his Mom. He wouldn't talk a lot about his father, only snide comments, in some ways I knew he can't forgive his father for cheating on his Mom and divorcing her and splitting up the family.
I never knew my parents but I had my grandparents and It was sad when I lost them separately, but I was lucky that they loved each other and would have never dreamed of being apart, let alone divorced, I had a stable, loving childhood, which I was thankful for.
The truck stopped outside the house, a lady walks from one of the barns moved quickly towards the truck, she looked in her late forties I thought, dark hair and eyes, she could see straight away the resemblance between Mitch and lady standing in front of them, his Mom.
"Give me a hug, you’re not too old, are you?"
Mitch hugged her, "nice to see you again Mom" " I miss you" she looked teary, I felt slightly uncomfortable, like I shouldn't be here.
Then Mitch looks towards me, "Mom this is Cole, my girlfriend, and Cole this is Mom, Val"Val looked at me and looked back at Mitch confused, "I thought she was your fiancée? Didn't you propose?" "I did, and I intend on marrying Cole, however long it takes, please can we talk about this later, we need to wash and change" Val nodded "Of course, nice to meet you Cole"
Val walked up to me and shook my hand "Nice to meet you too" "Why don't you go to the little house, fresh in up and Mitch you can give Cole a tour before dinner" she smiles.
Mitch and Bruce carried the bags to a little house that sat behind the main house, it had few steps to walk up to the front door there was a wraparound porch with swing looked cozy, Bruce opened the door, letting us inside."Thank you Bruce, we can take it from here?" Mitch patted Bruce's back, "alright, if you need anything, let us know?"
Bruce walked out leaving me and Mitch alone."Are Bruce and your Mom..." "No, just friends and he works for Mom as a Ranch manager" I had a feel that there was more to the relationship but I wasn't going to say to Mitch, "he seems nice"
