Outside 1

As twilight began to draw closer, the streets of Calabar began to get noisy, I could hear my neighbors fighting, police sirens had been blaring all day. As we all stepped outside to get into the car, some bikes sped past us with young boys holding machetes and guns. Apparently they had been chasing the police all day; this was a good time for all the fraternities to judge the streets with the blood of their rival gangs. We drove a few blocks down and saw bodies everywhere.

'The second seal has been opened.' I muttered under my breath

'What did you say sah?' Vincent asked overhearing what I had said

'Kids keep your heads down, don't look outside.'

'Yes dad.' Mmaette and Udoette chorused

'The dead bodies everywhere; I was just saying to myself this is one of the signs of the end, the second seal has been opened.' I said taking a left turn

'What seal?' Vincent asked curiously

'The professor mentioned the book of revelation and I told you I've read it before, you should too.' Changing gears and speeding a little

'Whatever, you're the savant, I don't really care.' He said in hubris

'Nawa oh! What took you guys so long, my wife had already started panicking and displaying her basic histrionics.' Udeme asked saluting me and shaking his colleague as we parked on his lawn

'Udeme the streets are crawling with blood, sorry for the delay, go get your wife let's go because we have to stop by Vincent's place next.' I said helping him with his gear as we loaded them into the car

'Goodevening gentlemen.' Mrs Ntekim greeted

'Goodevening madam, sorry we delayed.' I said scanning the neighborhood for strange movements. Two blocks away from the captain's house on the North-East end there was a loud bang like that of a small grenade, it startled the kids and they both left the back seat and lay flat on the floor of the car trembling furiously. Suddenly figures started coming towards us, they looked extraterrestrial. Their whole body was covered in goats hair and their eyes were shaped like an owls, they walked really fast and without weapons.

'Honey get into the car quickly.' Udeme beckoned to his wife holding up his rifle. She quickly threw the bags in her hand into the back of the car and dashed for the passengers seat in front, opened the glove compartment where her husband kept his side arm, cocked it and kept her head down.

'Hey! Stop where you are and identify yourselves or I promise you, the air you breathe will be your last.' Vincent roared in a guttural tone

The figures increased their paces regardless of our warning
