"Please bring Mila in" I spoke to my nurse as the parents left.I opened her file, skimming the pages that had her basic information such as height, weight, insurance, emergency contacts.
I grabbed a notebook, opening it to a clean page as I saw my nurse open the door.
I stood as I watched the small girl step from behind my nurse, giving her a small smile before her eyes moved to me.
"You must be Mila, I'm Doctor Hemmings, but you can call me Luke" I spoke, extending my hand to her, making her immediately shake it, not hesitating for a second.
"Go ahead and sit, we're just going to talk, get to know each other" I spoke, watching her sit as I did the same.
I saw her glance around my office, her knee shaking lightly.
"Tell me about yourself" I spoke slowly, watching her eyes move to my own.
"Not much to tell" she spoke slowly.
"You're quiet" I pointed out, seeing a dimple appear in her cheek as she smiled
"Yeah" she mumbled out.
"How long ago were you adopted?" I asked her.
"About three months ago" she spoke slowly.
"Were you happy about being adopted?" I asked.
I saw her hesitate.
"I guess" she mumbled.
"You guess?" I questioned her, seeing her eye contact immediately shift towards a wall.
"It's just new" she barely spoke.
I dismissed the topic, writing that as a note.
"Are you nervous?" I asked her, noticing her immediately stop shaking her knee.
She cleared her throat lightly.
"Kinda" she spoke lowly.
"What's the main thought that makes you nervous?" I asked her.
Her gaze stayed down, towards her hands.
"It's a lot" she spoke.
I looked to her small frame, seeing her twirling her rings, all signs of nervousness coming from her.
I looked to my mints on my desk
"Want a mint?" I spoke, seeing her head look up, both of her dimples showing on her cheeks.
"No thank you"
One day, I would get her to take a mint.
