The next day, I sat at my desk, thinking about Linda. I couldn't get her out of my head. And I didn't know why. I'd never see her again, so why was my mind on her constantly?
"Reagan!"
"What?" I looked at Fritz. Apparently, he had been trying to get my attention for a while.
"Where are you?"
"Huh?"
"Look, I know getting shot is scary, but you haven't been yourself since then. What gives?"
I shrugged my shoulders, "I dunno.... and I've only been back for a day! How can you tell? You didn't see me yesterday." (For those of you who lost count, today is Tuesday).
"Really, Reagan?"
"What?"
Fritz looked at me while he held a file in his hand. "Did ya meet a girl?"
"What?" I tried to sound... I dunno. Nonchalant? Maybe not guilty?
"Oh, you did! You did meet some hot chick!"
"She's not a hot chick...." I stated, matter of factly. "She's a major babe."
Fritz laughed, "Who is it? Huh? Who has Danny Reagan smitten?"
I shrugged again, suddenly not wanting to tell him.
"You don't know? Whaddaya mean you don't know?!"
"I never said I didn't know. I just shrugged."
"Meaning you're not gonna tell me."
"That's right."
"At least tell me what she looks like!"
"Fine. She's about five six. I'd say twenty, twenty two. Blonde hair, blue eyes. Nicely built. One helluva ass."
Fritz laughed, obviously enjoying it. "How'd ya meet her?"
I looked at him, debating to tell the truth. Fritz was one of my very good friends.... "she was the nurse who patched up the gun wound."
"Oh-ho! A nurse!"
"She does this tongue thing—"
"You've kissed her?"
"What? No, I wish! She bites her tongue, smiles and shows her teeth, and wrinkles her nose. I don't know what it is, but it drives me bananas."
"How many times have you seen her?"
"Uh, twice. But those were strictly professional.... see, she's helping a case that my dad's working on."
"Ooh."
"Yup."
"Will you see her again?"
"I hope so."
*********
That night, my mind was still on Linda. I wondered what she looked like in normal clothes. If she looked sexy in scrubs, she'd be outta-this-world phenomenal in plain clothes.
I sighed as I looked in my refrigerator- it was virtually empty. All I had was salad and chocolate syrup. I looked through my cabinets, finding bread, cereal, and something green. "I really need to go shopping...." I settled with cereal for dinner, turning on the tv. The movie that was playing was French Connection starring Roy Scheider and Gene Hackman. All in all, it was a good movie- also one of my favorites.
Someone knocked on my door, so I stood up, cereal bowl in hand. I smiled upon seeing my brother. "Hey, Joe."
"Hey, Danny," he stepped in and I closed the door. "Cereal again?"
"Yup. Forgot to shop."
Joe chuckled, "how can you forget to buy food?"
"Beats me. Wanna watch French Connection?"
"That gritty cop movie in New York? Sure." We sat in front of the tv, watching. Or rather, I tried to watch. The brain was still on the subject of Linda....A/n
Pic of Amy Carlson (Linda Reagan) in '94. A little off from my story, but close enough.
