Graven Image

Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:

Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;

And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.

Exodus 20:3-6

God specifically instructed not to make any graven image and bow down to it.

Not even if that image represents God himself. We cannot in any way represent the glory of God with any corruptible graven image made by our dirty and sinful hands. However, good the artist is.

All the more he hates it if we make our own gods. Silly how can it be called god if we make it.

If we disobey this command, the consequence of this sin can be passed down up to the 3rd or 4th generations.

But if we obey the blessing for obedience goes up to a thousand generations.
