I'm awake. I'm finally awake. I'm laying in bed in the hospital. Doctors are running around.

"He's awake!"

"Yes, yes, he woke up." Et cetera, et cetera.

I'm released from the hospital the next day. I'm laying in bed, my mom left for the store to get me some Crush Cups. Yes. Be quiet. Then the doorbell rings. I stand up. My head throbs for a minute. Then I slowly walk to the door. I open it. It's Nicole. She rushes in and hugs me.

"Ow," I mutter.

"Oh my gosh, Luke! I'm so sorry," she says, then goes back to hugging me.

"It's ok," I laugh.

"How are you feeling?" she asks once she pulls away.

"Alright. My head really hurts though," I reply.

"Oh! I didn't mean to make you get up! Here go back to your room, I'll get you down Advil." She pushes me lightly in the direction of my room and walks into the kitchen before I can stop her. I slowly make my way to my room and fall in my bean bag chair next to my phone. Nicole walks in a minute later with some lemonade and an Advil.

"Here ya go," she says.

"Thanks," I say, taking the pill. She sits down on the chair next to me. Oh crap. I wonder if she got hurt! Because I was carrying her when I fell.

"Hey, how are you feeling? Did I hurt you when I fell?" I ask.

"I'm good, thanks for asking, and I just got a couple scrapes on my knees," she replies. Then Joey pops into my head. He hasn't come to see me since I woke up. Then again, I've only been home for a few hours. He probably feels really bad.

"Hey, have you seen Joey lately?" I ask Nicole.

"No, come to think of it, I haven't seen him since you slipped," she says, pursing her lips.

"Oh well, he's probably been busy. I'll just call him right now." I grab my phone and press the number 1. He's on speed dial. It rings a few times then his voice comes on.

"Hey, you've reached the phone of the great Joeeeeey! I'm probably eating or sleeping. Oops. Call back soon. Leave a message after the beep. BEEEEP! Just kidding that was me. Ok yea you know what to do." The actual beep sounds.
"Uh hey, it's Luke. Just wanted to check up on you, and tell you that I don't hate you or anything." I laugh a little.
"Anyways call back, I wanna talk to you. Bye." I hang up.

"Hmm, I wonder where he is," I say aloud.

"You want me to ride to his house and check?" asks Nicole.

"Yea, but I'm gonna come with you. I need fresh air."

"Not even. You're gonna stay here and rest," Nicole commands.

"I really feel totally fine! My head doesn't hurt anymore. I'm fine!"

"Well if your heart suddenly explodes I'm not gonna help you," she frowns. We walk out to my garage and grab our bikes. Joey's house is pretty close to mine, and we're there in a few minutes. I hop off and knock. Nothing. I knock again. Still nothing. I try the knob. It's open. I tentatively open the door.

"Are you sure we should be doing this?" Nicole asks.

"Yea, what if they're in trouble or something! Or laying on the floor in the middle of a heart attack not being able to get to the phone!"

"Yes I'm sure that's it," she mutters. All the lights are off. I start checking the doors on one side and Nicole tries the others. Nothing. No one. Upstairs is the same. We head back outside. All five cars are in the driveway and garage.

"I wonder where they went," Nicole ponders.

"Same. Let's ask around. C'mon." We hop on our bikes and ride to the bakery, where all the local teenagers hang. We walk in, and the bell dings. Nicole sees a group of her friends and heads over. I walk over to some of the guys from the team.

"Luke! You're alive!" they say, and clap me on the back. I sit down after greeting them all.

"Have you guys seen Joey around?" I ask.

"Nah man, he hasn't been at practice lately, so I dunno," says Samuel, a really tall and muscular guy who is actually really nice. He pushes his longish black hair away from his eyes and looks at me.

"Is there a problem? Where is he?" He asks.

"I don't know," I reply. His house is empty. All eleven people that live there are gone. Totally empty."

"Does it look like they packed anything?" Caleb asks. "What about Josie? Oh I hope she's ok."

"Yea, me too, Caleb. Me too."
