Chapter 9
The Mountain Pass
The whip made its way through his skin cutting away his fresh and deep into his muscles. He let out a groan of pain. The sweat mixed with the blood ran through his exposed back making his wound sting and hurt more than it was suppose to. The chains that held his hands above his head and up the floor hanging from the ceiling. The putrid and horrific smells of the place made him even want to cry, but he could not. He was a strong man and he couldn’t show his weakness to the enemy.
“Where is she?” The soldier asked with no response to come. The whip flew through the air to meet once more with Damian’s back. He grunted
“Why are you even torturing yourself? Just tell me where she is and I’ll let you go, it’s that simple” Damian shook his head receiving another whip on the side of his stomach. The soldier sighted and threw the whip hard against the floor with annoyance.
“You sure are stupid” He then walked out the cellar’s door and locked it. The soldier spun a handle and after a moment Damian’s weak and mistreated body crashed against the murky floor filled with straw. He let out a breath. He couldn’t feel his body anymore, all he felt was pain. Endless pain from all the cuts and wounds from all of the torturing
Since the day he last saw Nora run on that horse he knew the upcoming yet he would face it for his friend’s safety and everyone’s salvation. He remembered blacking out after the soldiers captured him and then waking up at the cellar. Its floor was covered in straw and the walls were covered in mould yet there was a little window not even as big as his hand which the rays of the sun entered. Mice and rats roamed all over the place. Every day by the time of noon a soldier would come and torture him to see if they could get something out of him but none of them had any luck at it for Damian was loyal and would never betray Nora, not even if it meant his death.
Yet the pain he felt not only physically but mentally was driving him mad yet it was a sacrifice he was willing to make. He knew that Nora would come for him and he wanted to stay alive to see that day come true. He wanted her to succeed but for now all he had to do is wait. There was no worst torture than that, to have hope and wait for it to happen but still, he had to.
“I hope you do it Nora. I believe in you” Damian said under his words before blacking out.

The group left the inn that night and now have been travelling for the third day. They where currently ridding trough the mountain pass. The wind was blowing with so much force that it took everything from Nora not to be send away. Yes, it was indeed cold but it wasn’t snowing it still wasn’t that time of the year but Nora thought it was close to it. The trio rode for the whole day until they founded shelter in a nearby cave close to the path. They hurried in and made sure to unsaddle the tired horses. It has been hard on them yet they stood strong against the howling wind.
