-Yamazaki’s P.O.V.

“I just don’t think it’s a good idea,” Sanan sighed, fists clenched. “Nobody seems to think that letting another demon into the shinsengumi’s ranks is a bad idea.”

“Chiziru’s a demon as well, Sanan. Don’t forget that,” Kondou spoke sternly, though he seemed rather lost in thought as well.

“But she does not know how to use her own powers. Ayamei knows her strengths and how to use them. Yamazaki, did you not say that she was able to shake off Kazama? And has Kazama not been giving us a hard time? If she’s good enough to do that, then if she decides to turn on us…”

“Sanan. You make valid points, and I appreciate your words. However, we have to find the benefits. If she’s strong enough to shake Kazama…”

“Then she’s strong enough,” Hijikata finally scoffed. “She’s not necessarily strong. She’s just agile.”

“If I may,” I barely spoke, waiting for eyes to turn to me. “The commander is correct. She did not overpower Kazama. She simply outran him. She is quick as well as silent on her feet, hence why she has made a good messenger thus far.”

“Are you saying she is weak, then?” Sanan’s glare only sharpened.

“No. She knows how to kill; I have seen it with my own two eyes,” I sighed, looking away. And I have also heard of her knowledge in the killing field…

“…If we are even considering this, then perhaps we should consult the captains,” Kondou bit his lip, looking out the window. “Toshi?”

“I suppose so. Yamazaki, tell them to come here for a meeting.”

            “Understood.”

“Haven’t had a meeting like this in a while. What’s going on?” Okita spoke in his usual playful tone before coughing a few times.

“Did something happen?” Harada sat beside Nagakura, who seemed less than pleased with the meeting considering he was on the night patrol last night.

With Saito and Heisuke gone, the ranks were rather slim.

“Nothing has happened, but there is something that must be discussed,” Hijikata nodded at them.

I intervened, remembering that night not too long ago. “Nagakura, Harada. Do you remember the evening that you happened upon that woman in the woods? She was looking for her horse?”

“Yeah. Long black hair, grey eyes?” Nagakura arched a brow.

            “Yes.”

“What about her…?” Harada was slowly coming to the realization that she might mean something. “Did she do something?”

“She has been aiding the Shinsengumi for a decent amount of time. It was simple coincidence that you happened to run in to her, but we have been debating what to do with her,” I informed them slowly, making sure I didn’t leave anything out. “She has been passing us information and helping to keep the headquarters safe.”
