“Where did you say she can be found?” Hijikata questioned, tucking the letter into his sleeve.

“I’ve had luck finding her in or around one of the taller trees in the forest. She’s been somewhat easier to find once you’re nearby, as she has her horse with her.”

“…I wish to bring her in. Maybe she can answer the questions that have yet to be answered,” Hijikata nodded.

“I’ll go and locate her, then. If you send anybody else, she will likely not return willingly,” I suggested. It was true; if she felt threatened then she would not listen. And I had a bad feeling that the Captains might intimidate her, even if it was accidentally.

            “We’ll send Shimada with you.”

“I’d be glad to help,” Shimada bowed slightly. “So long as I won’t be getting in the way, Yamazaki.”

“She knows you’re with me. I don’t think she’ll have too much of a problem.”

“I’ll inform the captains that we’ll be meeting at her arrival?” Kondou asked.

“No. We should keep this between the higher ups, for now. The captains don’t need to worry about it. If I decide she is worth the time, I will arrange for frequent meetings with her to retrieve information and will eventually introduce her to the captains through one of these meetings.”

            “I’ll go retrieve her, then?”

“Make haste, Yamazaki.” I nodded again; the sun was already setting. We hoped to have her in and out by the time it was completely dark outside.

“It’s alright, Tsuki… Just a little wound, okay?” I rubbed her lovingly as she lay on the ground. I covered her wound with the last of the bandages I had with me. “You’ll be fine.” …She’ll be fine, I thought in relief. “I just can’t ride you for a while. Let’s make sure you can walk.” I pat her side quickly a few times before she slowly rose, standing steadily. She didn’t seem to be in too much pain, which was a huge relief. “What a good horse, Tsuki.” I handed her some more carrots, smiling. “Roughing it out for me. What a sweetheart.”

“I’m surprised she hasn’t gone rampant.”

“Ah, good afternoon, Yamazaki. And company,” I bowed gently to the second man. “What brings you here today?”
