monster 〔♡〕

(Jane's POV)
"It's all going to be alright" Max said softly, running her fingers through my  curls. I had been worrying about what happened today all night, Max told me it wasn't a big deal but I don't think she fully understands what I'm capable of. I don't like hurting others, but sometimes my emotions get the best of me. 

"What happens when I go too far, Max?" I ask, she just sighs in response. I knew why I was so worried, it was because I went too far in the past. "Max, let me tell you something I haven't told anyone" I said with a shaky voice. I told her the story of my sister 008, known as Kali. I told her what she tried to make me do, how I broke into that man's home and nearly killed him. Luckily, I snapped back to reality and realized he has a life and a family, I realized he was a dad, a son, a husband. Max was shocked, but understanding. 

"You realized you were in the wrong though, Jane. You realized that with Mike too" she tried to reassure me, but I still doubted myself. "I realized I was in the wrong AFTER Micheal crashed into a bunch of bushes" I reminded her. 

"Mike is one thing, but what if I snap on one of our friends like that? What about Joyce or Hop? What about my step brothers?" I paused, "what about you?". Max looked concerned, "why....why would you do that?" she questioned. I began to cry and shake, "I'm a monster" I sobbed. Max rubbed my back and sighed, "you're not a monster Jane, stop that I mean it!". I just shook my head, I didn't feel like talking anymore. "Jane! look at me!" Max begged, but I wouldn't. Finally, after a couple minutes of me sobbing and Max trying to comfort me, I spoke. "Max, I want to sleep" I sniffled. She just stared at me for a second, probably deciding whether she should drop the subject or not. "Y-yeah...yeah okay.." she said, I fell asleep not too long after that.

(Max's POV)

Jane fell asleep, but I was still awake. Monster? How could she think that? That's not the Jane I know, and I wanted to express that to her. I stayed up trying to think of ways to put it into words, I wasn't going to drop this. I couldn't let her think that about herself and do nothing about it. Eventually I fell asleep though, and I was going to convince her tomorrow. 

The next morning I woke up before Jane and went to Will's room. I knocked on his door a few times until he finally answered, "jesus Max! What do you want?" he whisper-yelled. "Can I talk to you?" I asked, he stood there for a second, sighed, then let me in. "What do you want to talk about?", I explained the situation to him and told him I needed help convincing her. "Well she needs to stop focusing on her mistakes and think all of the times she's helped us" Will stated. He was right, so we called up Lucas and Dustin.

Jane woke up about an hour later, Will and I were just in the living room watching some Saturday morning cartoon that he was into. Will definitely is taking longer to grow up than the rest of us, which is fine because it's not like he's ignorant and uneducated like Mike. Jane came over and sat next to me, I greeted her with a "good morning".  Will and I looked at each other, "we thought we could go hang out with Dustin and Lucas today, if that's okay with you" he said. Jane liked the sound of that, we haven't been hanging out with everyone as much as we used to. 

The 5 of us met up at Dustin's place. We were in his room, talking, joking around, then Lucas gave me a look and gestured to Jane. I responded by nodding my head. "So...there's actually a reason we all are here today" Lucas began. Jane was confused, she looked over at Will and I, "what....what reason?" Jane asked. "You're not a monster Jane! That's total bullshit!" Dustin blurted. Jane looked back at me, she seemed upset. "I'm sorry I just-" I started, then I got cut off by Will.

 "Jane, you saved me, you did. I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for you".  We all agreed. 

"Remember that time Troy and his little minion were acting like a bunch of assholes and talking shit about Will so you made him piss his pants?" Lucas chuckled. 

"And if you weren't there when Mike jumped off that cliff he'd be dead! I wouldn't feel that bad about making him fall into a bush" Dustin added. 

I grabbed Jane's hands and looked her in the eyes, "remember the night we officially met? Even though you were hurting you still listened to me, you asked me if I was alright even though Mike hated my guts. You then convinced him to let me into the party. You are the best thing that has ever happened to me" I said. 

(Jane's POV)
I started to cry, but they were happy tears. I hugged Max, then everyone else joined in. "Thank you" I whispered. "Of course".
