Chapter One
"Are You Okay..."
Selena's Point Of View
"Selena, are you okay?"
I bit the inside of my cheek to try and hold myself back from breaking down: it was interly too impossible, though.
"Answer me Selena," my best friend, Vanessa, said into the phone.
"I-I need you," I said weakly into the phone.
It was hard for me to hold the phone still because my hand was shaking so much. Actually, no. I wasn't shaking. I was trembling.
"Oh my gosh..." Vanessa's voice trailed off. She knew exactly why I needed her. "I'm on my way, Selena," I could hear her wrestling to try and put her jacket on as she grabbed her car keys. "Don't hang up the phone."
I looked down at my naked body. I had bruises all over my body. They were mainly scattered all on my arms and legs, but there was plenty scattered on my back and stomach as well.
I thought I had no tears left inside me, that they were all dried up, but I was wrong. Tears started falling down my cheeks as my hand covered my mouth to try and keep my sobs muffled. It didn't help.
"Don't cry," I heard Vanessa say over my sobs.
Don't cry? How the hell does she expect me to not cry?
I continued to cry into the phone-my body still trembling from fear and from the cold that now surrounded my exposed body-until I heard footsteps come running up the stairs of my house. The door swung open and Vanessa stood in the doorway.
She stared at me. Taking in the sight she was seeing, the condition I was in.
It wasn't the first time she's seen me like this though...
"Oh my god," she said, her hand covering her mouth.
I just looked at her, tears still fell from my face.
"I-I'm sorry..." I cried, turning my head away, letting my hair fall down to where it hide my face.
I heard Vanessa walk into the bedroom and started rustling through different things until she came over to me. She crouched down and in front of me as I felt something wrap around me. A blanket.
"It's okay. It's over now." Vanessa said, her hand in my shoulder.
I looked up at her, my face now completely soaked with my own tears.
"I'm sorry," I repeated. It was all I could say.
"You have nothing to be sorry for. It's not your fault."
I shook my head. "I'm sorry," I choked out.
Vanessa's eyes were watering. She wanted to cry, but I could tell she was holding back the urge to do so.
"Come here," she said.
She wrapped her arms around me and held me close to her. I wrapped my arms around her and just cried. And cried. And then cried.
* * * * *
I was suddenly awaken by the sound of my alarm clock going off.
I reached over and turned the alarm off as I checked the time. Six o'clock in the morning.
Could I just lay here? Did I have to go to school?
I went to lay back down and fall back sleep, but my phone kept me from doing so. It started vibrating on my night stand, indicating someone was calling me. I sighed as I grabbed my phone and answered the call.
