The sun shone down through the trees as me and Daryl laid down beneath them. Daryl had his arm wrapped around my shoulders and his face buried in the crook of my neck, eyes closed.

"Dare...?" I softly whispered in his ear after several minutes of silence.

"Ye?" he mumbled back.

"Y..." I paused then took a deep breath. "You ever thought about havin'...y'know...kids?" my fingers brush over my front pocket.

Daryl hesitated for a moment before shrugging slightly. "I dunno. Have ye?"

"Yeah, I guess it would be nice...eventually."

If only he knew what I was really thinking...what I really wanted...

"The kid would be screwed up in tha' head by tha' time it was 5. Y'know, havin' a dad like meh and an uncle like Merle.."

"Nah, it wouldn't. You'd make a great dad...and Merle? Well...he wouldn't be 'round most of it's life anyway, would he?"

I bit my lip, the thought rolling around in my head over and over.

Damn it Scout! Snap the hell out of it. We've been together for years...he wouldn't think any less of you if he knew...

"Well...the thing is Dare...I..." his grip around my shoulders tightened and my eyes flew open in surprise. "Uh..." I faulted slightly. "I've been thinking about it for a while and I've decided I want 4 so one would never be alone. I have their names sorted out as well." I blurted out, my cheeks reddening and the feeling of guilt erupt deep in my gut.

"Scout...wha'...? he was cut off from finishing his sentence when a raspy southern accent sounded.

"Hey, baby brother!"

Merle.
