My hands pulled my pastel pink hoodie down over my eyes and walked into the store. I yanked out my phone and started to look up directions. Well, I wasn't really looking for directions, in reality I was spotting the employee behind the counter. It was kind of late at night so there was only one that I could pick out.
I pressed my back to the wall of the store and put my phone back in my pocket, reaching down for the cans on the bottom shelf and picking a random one up. After staring for a bit I let out a huff. I wouldn't be able to afford this anyways so even just holding it made my stomach grumble.
My fingers placed the can back and I began formulating a plan.
Slowly I walked up to the cash register and the employee came right over.
On her back was a pair of small white wings. Her aura was rather innocent, should be easy to... persuade.
"I'm sorry but could you help me?" I asked widening my eyes. She gave me a concerned look.
She is diffidently a mother.
"Of course sweetie, what's wrong?"
"I'm a little bit lost. I thought maybe you could point me in the right direction." I nervously played with the strings on my hoodie. I began to work myself up, breathing heavily and batting my eyes rapidly. "I was really hungry so I came here, but when I checked my back pocket my wallet was gone. I must have left it at my hotel." I looked down. "I was wondering if you could point me in the direction of the hotel so I could go retrieve it?" She opened the door to the side of the counter and locked it behind her.
"Of course honey. Why don't you show me which direction you came from." I led her outside and out to the road. No cars passed by us, no streetlights were on. It was perfect.
"Uh I think I came from..." I grabbed her by the neck and yanked. She let out a gargle and clawed at my arms. "I'm sorry lady. But for what it's worth, I thought you were really nice." She stopped struggling and her eyes rolled back into her head as her body went limp. I hated this part.
Don't worry, I didn't kill her. I'm no murderer. She's just going to feel lightheaded for a while.
I picked up two rocks from the gravel outside. I knew that was all I would need. I pulled down my hoodie even farther and swung the door open. The rocks flew out of my hands and went right into the lenses of the cameras. I quickly opened the unlocked cash register, thanks to the lady caring so much she forgot to lock it. I grabbed a good half of the money and stuffed my pockets. I also got a few food items, but only the ones in cans. I wouldn't want to take too much.
I walked outside and picked up the lady. She was really heavy, but I didn't drop her over fear of hurting her. I took the lady back inside and laid her down on the floor. I put a few shopping bags under her head and covered her up with a blanket I found under the counter. I took a small sticky note and wrote,
Take some advil please.
"Sorry again lady." I said down to her. "But I need to eat somehow." Then, I stepped out of the store and started the long way to 'home'.
Let me explain a few things. I was born an outcast. My parents dumped me at the age of five. My grandmother took me in, but then she died when I was ten. I was taken to an orphanage, and I escaped within the same month.
Why would I escape when I had food, water, and a roof to sleep under?
The answer? My horrendous eyes.
See, when I was born I had a weird case of Heterochromia. My eyes are blue and red. The doctors told my parents that they had never seen anything like it. To be honest maybe they kept me for so long because they thought I would grow out of it. But, the end of the line for them was when I started seeing wings.
