John P.O.V.
"Just make up some bullshit huh?" I yawned staring down at my computer screen. "Look where that got me."
It had been hours, days, of me writing and perfecting this essay for Mr. Hansen. What do I love? At first, I didn't know. Days ago, I thought the prompt was stupid and had little to no significance but...now I realize it's much more. I poured every part of me into the essay. I don't think in a million years I could've done any better. I smiled down at my work. The paper was crumpled around the edges and the middle was filled with white out and eraser marks, but I was proud of it.
And too lazy to re write it on a different sheet.
"It's done." I said quietly. Jaren walked over to my position on the couch and kissed my forehead lightly.
"Good job babe. Now will you take me out to dinner?" He threw himself over the couch and landed in my lap, pushing my papers onto the coffee table. "I will not hesitate to eat your arms, that is a warning."
"Okay, okay." I pushed him off me and stood up, cracking my knuckles and offering him a hand. "But Jay and Charlie can't come this time." Jaren pouted as his tiny friends fluttered around the room, landing on his head and shoulder.
They found us a few days ago. My apartment has a no animals policy but if anything happens, they can just fly out the window then come back. Plus, how could I resist animals and my boyfriend begging me to let them stay.
"Aw...why?"
"Cause last time they kicked us out of the café when the birds took off with a kid's mini bagel." Jaren crossed his arms and refused my help up.
"That was a onetime thing please let them come!" He begged.
"No, the guys are coming for dinner tonight. You need to interact with actual people." Jaren's eyes lit up at the mention of the group getting back together. I rolled my eyes. "Don't tell me you forgot when I told you last week."
"No, I totally did." He stood up and brushed off his pants. "But at least now I have something to be excited for!"
"Going out to eat with your boyfriend isn't enough to make you excited?" I growled giving him a stink eye. He just poked my nose and walked over to the door. He grabbed his shoes and threw me mine.
"John, I am delighted you found the time to go out with me." Jaren joked and opened the door and jangled a pair of car keys. I scrambled to put my shoes on after I realized he snatched my keys from my back pocket while I wasn't looking and was once again going to attempt to drive my new car.
"Oh hell no!" I screamed lunging for the door and closing it loudly behind me. I ran out to the parking lot to see Smitty hopping in the driver's side. "Get the fuck out you heathen!" I yelled playfully as I raced to grab the door before it closed behind him. I got the handle and yanked the door back, causing Jaren to fall out from the force. I caught him by his waist and hoisted him up to my level. He smiled with a giggle and pecked my cheek with a kiss. I touched our foreheads together and set him down. I noticed my keys in his left hand and an idea popped into my head.
I tilted Jaren into a long and sweet kiss, grabbing the keys and sticking them in my pocket. When we both released each other for air he puffed out his cheeks and huffed.
"No fair."
"Really? Cause it seemed pretty fair to me." I smiled hopping in the car. Jaren made his way into the passanger's seat and I pulled out quickly. "At this rate we will be five minutes late!" I complained. Jaren just smiled and said that the guys will be fine even if we show up late.
