TW: Homophobia, If there's anything else tell me💜🖤
Roman's POV:
I sat at a café not too far from the apartment. I only needed a break. My normally fantastic self could barely contain the thoughts inside my head.
I opened my laptop and laid it on the table. My fingers tapped repeatedly, over and over again. Red nails reflecting the descending sun. Patton had painted them, adding soft silver hearts on my ring finger nails.
I smiled, I love him. His smile and the flurry of freckles on his face. The way he pushes his Harry Potter glasses up his nose.
That's why it was hard opening a damn laptop and making a call.
My heart pounded in my ears, echoing in my head, surrounded by my distracting thoughts. This was too hard.
Just open it.
I cracked the laptop open, staring at the blue light that escaped it. Slowly, I completely opened it, staring at the picture of me and Patton at a park, grinning like goofballs.
I chuckled quietly as I typed in the password; Patton's name. What can I say? I'm a romantic.
I slid my finger across the laptop screen, pressing against the Skype app.
Here goes nothing.
The call connected as I put my headphones.
"Darling! It's so good to see you!" A voice pierced my ear. I dialed down the sound."Hello, Mother." I waved slightly in front of the camera, remembering to give her a winning smile.
"Oh, goodness, Darling! It's been so long. Wait a minute— Your father is coming."
My smile dipped a bit. He sat down with Mother in the camera. "Hello, Father."
"Oh, it's such a joy to see you, Darling. Are you coming for Easter dinner? Maybe with a beautiful girlfriend?" My mother cooed, my father nodding in support.
I was used to the question by now, my heart had stopped beating faster at this certain situation.
"You know I'm dating Patton," I said with confidence. They both sighed, not bothering to hide their disappointed glances.
"Darling–" I was getting tired of hearing that word. It reminded me of my brother. "We thought you'd be over this... phase by now," she crowed.
I sighed heavily. "It's not a phase, Mother. I'm gay, you know this, I know this. Let's stop acting as we didn't already."
"You're twenty-five Roman. I only want what's best for you. You don't want to end up like your brother," she hissed.
"A mistake, plain and simple," my father muttered.
I flinched back. If I focused then I could remember him as a teenager dressed in a green sweatshirt, me a baby. I could remember the way he snarled or cackled evilly.
"You need to grow up, Roman." I looked at my mother, a new sparkle in my eyes.
"You're right, completely, utterly right. I should grow up. I'm going to propose to Patton," I said, staring off. "Not now, but soon." I couldn't now. We were all broken in some way. I want us to be whole first.
"You can't be serious, Darling-"
"This is outrageous-"
"I'll see you in three days. Goodbye." I hung up, feeling as if I had just run a marathon. I want to spend the rest of my life with Patton.
I smiled.
I had gotten so much more than what I had bargained for. And, in the end, I get Patton.
Who said fairytale weren't true?
