Chapter 3

Darry's POV

I had just got out of the shower when I heard Dally on the house phone talking to someone. Who could be calling at this hour? I walked out of the bathroom and into the kitchen, Dally handed me the phone and mouthed the word 'Hailey'. Gosh I missed that girl and I felt so bad for her for being kicked out by her so called 'brother'. Just because his parents adopted her when she was a baby doesn't mean that she is his sister! She's mine, Sodapop and Ponyboy's!

"Hey Hailey."

The phone call lasted about 5 minutes and I wasn't to shocked about what she had to say. She didn't like showing emotion except to me and Sodapop so it was normal she wouldn't want to wait around to say bye to Dakota. After I hung up I raced to go get dressed. When I came back apart the whole gang was here except for Johnny, he was probably at the lot.

"I'm going to pick Hailey up! Who wants to come?" I seen four hands shoot up even before I could finish my sentence, then when I said ok Sodapop was the first one out the door, then Dally, and finally Ponyboy. We got into the truck and drove off. Time to bring my baby sister home. For good.

Hailey's POV

It was kinda a long walk but nothing I couldn't handle. My long brown hair flew in the cool breeze while the sun shone down on my already tanned skin. I looked to my left to see trees that were almost the same green as my eyes and pink flowers the color of my lips. Dakota always said I was beautiful so I shouldn't wear makeup and I never did but that was the brother side of him talking he just wasn't ready to let his kid sister grow up. At the thought of that I huge smile plastered it self across my face. I heard an engine of a mustang getting closer from behind me. Shit I knew I was now close to Tulsa but I didn't think I would run into any Socs yet! I felt for my switchblade in my pocket and got a good grip on it because these streets were quiet at this time of day so no one could help me. The car stopped and four of five nicely dressed guys got out of it. Damit I wouldn't be able to take them all. Sure I was 14-going-on 15 but I was a little small for my age.

"Hey there beauty why are you walking all by your lonesome self?" The driver asked.

"None of your business Soc!" I spit the word out like it was venom.

"Oh! We got ourselves a feisty one huh? Just how I like 'em!" The second one said. They got closer. Then before I knew it they were surrounding me. One hit me across the face and then kicked me in my ribs, but before they could do anything else a red pickup truck pulled up and four guys jumped out. I know these guys! It was Darry, Ponyboy, Sodapop and Dally! In the blink of an eye I seen Darry fighting two guys at once and Dally and Ponyboy working together to take down three. Then I felt someone pick me up bridal style. I looked up and saw Soda looking back at me. I gave him a weak smile then said "Some family reunion huh?" He chuckled and put me in the truck. Then we pulled away. Out of no where pain shot through my head and I passed out into blackness.
