Hailey's POV

"Oh Soda! I love it!" I cried as I spun around and threw my arms around his neck, embracing him in a big hug. "We knew you would! It wasn't just me who fixed it up, it was the whole gang." He replied with a proud smile. "Golly I'll have to thank all of them later! Was it Pony's idea to put the window bench in?" I questioned. "Actually no. It was Dally's." I was taken back by his answer. "Really?" I couldn't believe it. "Yeah he said he remembered you talkin' about how you've always wanted one." Wow. I mean Dal and I had talked a lot on the phone when we were younger but we stopped when I was like 14, maybe, so he would have been 15. He's now 17 how did he remember? I made a mental note to really thank him when I seen him. I walked over to the window bench and examined it more carefully. It was white wood just like my desk with pink cushions that were a tad darker then the color of my walls. It was gorgeous. In that time Soda had left the room and closed the door so I could get changed. I didn't want to wear anything very eye catching because I hated being the centre of attention. I looked through my bag and I decided to throw on a pink ruffled shirt with a pair of white jean shorts and my red converse. I grabbed the little bit of makeup I wear and went into the bathroom. I applied a tiny amount of black mascara, a minimal amount of brown shimmery eye shadow and a light pink lip gloss. It really wasn't much like most greaser girls would wear but I don't want to be like them. I want to be myself and the person I am hates makeup. It turns you into a different person because it's like putting a mask on. That and plus it makes you look like a whore.

I took one last glance in the mirror and headed for my bedroom door. "Took you long enough!" Soda said as I exited my room, I wasn't expecting him to be standing outside my door so that kinda startled me. "Well, a gir-" I began but was cut off when Soda waved his hand in the air and said "Yeah, yeah. I know 'a girl'a gotta do what a girl's gotta do'. You say that all the time!" He chuckled and I lifted a shoulder as if to shrug it off. I hit him playfully on the shoulder and walked downstairs. When I reached the last step I saw Dally spit out his chocolate cake he was in the middle of eating, he was staring at me. I could feel heat rising up to my cheeks so I tried to cover it with my hair. That didn't work so I went over to the couch where Twobit was sitting. Mickey Mouse was playing on the TV. We watched about 2 episodes when Johnny waked in. He was probably having a cancer stick. He asked if we were already to go when I heard Dally call from the kitchen "I'm ready! I've been waiting for little Curtis over here!" He pointed at me and I couldn't help but smirk. I got up from the couch and called back "A girls gotta do, what a girls gotta do!" I heard snickers coming from Soda. I grabbed my jacket and headed for the door with Pony an Johnny behind me.

It wasn't a very long walk to the Dingo maybe 10 minutes. Pony was walking beside me while Johnny and Dally were whispering behind us. "How come you came to live with us?" Pony blurted out, it didn't come out of curiosity, I think it was out of anger. I guess Ponyboy asked the question a little to loudly because both Dally and Johnny's heads whipped up from their conversation. "Back off Pone." Dally said in a calm manner but there was an edge to his voice. "Yeah, let Hailey tell us when she's ready." Johnny added. Pony didn't look convinced he just repeated his question. "Why did you have to come live with us?" There was still anger in his voice but he was trying to mask it, although it wasn't working. Did he blame me for something? Why didn't he want me here? Oh. My. God. I'm driving Ponyboy away just like I did to mom, dad and Dakota. I probably just spoke out loud. Shit! Just thinking about last night brought tears to my eyes. I replied to his question in a strong, confident voice. "I came, because Dakota. H-he was drunk and threw a glass b-bottle at me, that's why I have the bandage on. Then he kicked me out said he couldn't live with me anymore. He called me d-disgusting words that I don't feel like repeating." I hadn't realized I had tears running down my face until someone came and hugged me. I wrapped my arms around the person who was hugging me and buried my face into their shoulder. I heard the soft whispers of the person trying to comfort me. "Shhh. It's ok doll, nothing is gonna happen to you now." The person comforting me was no other then Dallas.
