Dallas's POV

Hailey's so stubborn. Doesn't she realize I love her and that I need her? But she has to play hero and run to save those children in the fire. I heard crashing and wood burning, I have to get her out of there. Plus I don't think the smoke is good for the baby. Yes I do care about that baby, it's my child. Why wouldn't I care. I know Hailey thinks that I don't care but I do, I was shocked when she told me at first but then I was so happy. I just hope that she gives me another chance. And I hope I don't turn out like my father. You know, not caring where the kid is, beating him/her, I don't want to be like that. I was brought back when I heard more cracking sounds and a short, piercing scream. That's it. I jumped through the window, in time to see a piece of burning wood falling towards Hailey. Before it fell on her, Johnny pushed her out of the way and covered her body with his. Oh my god. I ran towards them and moved the burned wood off of Johnny then picked then both up and ran out just before the whole building collapsed.

Johnny's POV

I knew something like this would happen. I seen the fiery wood falling down towards Hailey like an astroid falling towards earth. I couldn't let anything happen to her or that baby, so I did the first thing that came to mind. I pushes her slightly out of the way and jumped on top of her, hoping to cover her body from the burning wood. The fiery wood hit my back and I blacked out from the pain.

Hailey's POV

I woke up in an unfamiliar place, in nothing but a gown and undergarments. There were bright fluorescent lights and there was a faint beeping sound, that increased the more I panicked. "Calm down Hailey. It's alright." I heard a familiar voice say as I was gently pushed back into the bed. "D-Darry?" I asked not believing what I was hearing. "Yeah, it's me Soda's here too." He replied calmly. I cautiously sat up and saw Soda in a chair right next to me, holding my hand, with his head on the side of my bed, well, hospital bed. "Soda?" I whispered softly then I let go of his hand. That woke him up. He looked up at me with tiered eyes, when he saw that it was me, his eyes opened all the way and he was wide awake. "Hailey!" He cried as he got up to hug me. I immediately wrapped my arms around him, he held on really tight, as if, if he let me go I would fly away. "I thought we lost you like we did mom and dad." He sobbed into my shoulder. Then I felt two other pair of arms wrap around us. Now we were all crying. When they let go, Pony asked "Hailey, you cut your hair?" I nodded. "We had to change our look from the description in the paper, so bye bye coloured streaks." Soda smiled. "Well I personally, love it," he said while laughing. Darry on the other hand looked more serious. "How bad is it Dar?" He chuckled. "It's not that bad kid, broken arm, burnt leg. But that's not what I'm upset about." I gulped, does he know I'm pregnant? Oh please no! "So," my voice came out hoarse, "what are you upset about?" He started to answer my question when I realized, "Where are Jonny and Dallas?" I kinda shouted. "They're fine." Pony said but his ears got red. "Ponyboy Curtis! You're lyin'!" He sighed. "Hailey, you wanna know why you aren't dead? Johnny jumped on top of you so that you wouldn't get burned. But he did. He's got a broken back and really bad burns." Soda told me. Johnny saved me. He saved me, but he's gonna die. "What about Dallas?" I demanded. "He's not bad. Better then you actually. Just a little burned on his arm." That's a relief at least Dallas isn't bad. "If it weren't for ol' Dal, you and Johnnycakes would've been goners. He ran in and got y'all out." Dal risked his life for mine and Johnny's. I nodded in determination. I know what I'm gonna do. "Hey Dar? When can I get outta this stupid place?" I asked. He smiled and replied. "As soon as you want kid. We just gotta fill out papers." Then he walked out. "Well help me up!" I laughed, Pony and Soda both jumped up and helped me out of the bed. "I'm good. I'm good. I'm gonna go for a walk alright?" Soda nodded. I walked out of the room and tried to find a nurse or someone. I finally came upon a nurse with red hair pulled up out of her face. "Excuse me m'am?" I asked politely. She turned to face me. "What can I help you with sweety?" She beamed. "I was wondering which room Dallas Winston is in?" She smiled. "Just this way sweetheart, I'm actually his nurse." I followed her all the way down to the end of the hall, it was the sixth room down from mine, on the left side. She walked in and motioned for me to follow. I took a deep breath. It's now or never.
