Mari did indeed have to babysit Thomas that morning. But that only lasted for about five minutes since her aunt forgot to mention he was going to a friends house. So once he left, she was all by herself.

She decided to go on a walk around the town and saw Max skateboarding outside of her house. Max noticed her and motioned her to come closer.

"You ride?" Mari asked, gesturing to the skateboard.

"I try. I started learning it back in California. Do you?"

"Yep. I had a friend teach it to me in Chicago. Haven't rode in awhile though."

"Wanna try?"

Mari scoffed, "No, thank you. I don't really feel like busting my ass today."

They laughed and Max tried to show her some of her tricks but the last one slid away from her. They looked up and saw Eleven stop it from rolling away and walked toward them.

"Hi."

"Hi?"

"Can we talk?"

------

"And then he said he missed me. And then he just hung up."

"He's a piece of shit."

Mari involuntarily snorted as El frowned, "What?"

"Mike doesn't have jack shit to do today. He's at his house with the guys." Mari explained.

"And his Nana obviously isn't sick. I guarantee you, Mike and Lucas are playing Atari right now." Max added.

"But friends don't lie." El argued.

"Boyfriends lie. All the time."

A lightbulb lit in Mari's head, "Why don't we go to the mall. Have a girls day and forget about the guys."

"Great idea."

-----

The three girls hopped off of the bus and Eleven stared at the mall entrance.

"So, what do you think?" Max asked, but quickly noticed the frown on El's face, "What's wrong?"

"Too many people. Against the rules."

Mari assumed that since the group were her only friends, she didn't get out much.

"Seriously? You have superpowers." Max said.

"What's the worst that could happen? Besides, we make our own rules." Mari added.

They smiled and grabbed both of El's hands as they ran into the mall. Eleven gazed in wonder as she saw the many shops and people.

"So, what should we do first?"

"You've never been shopping before, have you?" Mari asked.

Eleven shook her head.

"Then I guess we'll have to try everything. Ooh. Come here."

Max led them to Gap and Eleven roamed around, amazed at all the different clothes. Mari didn't blame her; El's clothes were a bit on the homely side.

El stopped at a bright blue shirt on a mannequin.

"You like that?"
