The monster started to chase Nancy down the hallway. Johnathon tried to distract it from her but there was only so much he could do with Mari in his arms.
Speaking of, the girl was near unconsciousness. She barely registered that Johnathon had somehow dragged her down the hallway Nancy and the monster had ran. He set her down on the ground as he tried to break into the room where Nancy was trapped with the monster.
Mari also barely realized that the other kids had come to their side. Will immediately kneeled by her side and tried to get her eyes to focus on him.
"Mari, I need you to look at me! Okay? Look at me. I'm here. I'm right here." he assured. Her eyes fluttered open just a bit more and she saw his face. She instantly felt relief at the familiar face.
"Will.." she breathed out.
"Yeah, that's right. It's me."
El had opened the door with her powers and tossed the monster out the window. Johnathon went to check on Nancy before he came back and lifted Mari into his arms bridal style.
The group rushed outside to see the monster disappear into a sewer.

The next morning, Mari woke in a panic, forgetting she was safe. She gasped out and alarmed the others.
They all crowded around the couch in El's cabin and assured her that she was safe. Once realization hit her, she felt all the pain come rushing in. Her throat was bruised from the choke hold she was in and her stomach had dried blood all around it.
Since none of the kids were doctors, they had no idea how to help her stomach slash; they just put pressure on it with a few rags.
Will brought her some water as Mike started pacing and complaining that El had been in her dream world for too long. And then they all got in a group argument which somehow ended up with Mike confessing that he loved El.
Mari would've found it hilarious if she wasn't half out of her wits. She noticed that El came out of her room and explained what she saw. They all crowded around the couch for Mari's convenience. She sat up and slouched on Max's shoulders.
"Billy sitting in his room on the Fourth of July? That is not normal."
"He wants us to find him."
"Yeah that's what I'm afraid of. If Billy knows where we are, the rest of the flayed will too."
"It's a trap. I agree. We'll be ambushed." Mike said.
"It won't be a surprise. We know they'll be there and we'll kick their flayed butts." Lucas pointed out.
"You mean El will kick their butts."
"It's too risky. Killing the flayed doesn't kill the Mind Flayer."
"We have to find where it's coming from." Mari added.
"Billy knows. He's been there." El said.
"Yeah, but-"
"It's a trap. I know. We can't go to Billy, but I think there's another way. A way for me to see where he's been."
El started to do her dream world thing again as Mari began to get lightheaded again. Will noticed and placed her head on his chest.
"Get some rest. You'll need the energy later."
She weakly nodded and curled her head closer to him.
