Angelica doesn't remember her parents. In fact, she doesn't remember even having a family. She was abandoned as a baby and lived under the worst conditions at the streets, being cared by a few scatters of society but none of them lasted for long.
She grew up in a dangerous neighborhood in Chicago, and as the years went by she got involved with a bunch of dangerous people. Angelica can't quite remember why she was dragged into that mess, maybe because of being starving and they offered some food or even shelter for a rainy day, but what she did remember is that she was forced to learn to defend herself once she started to owe them.
Once, when Angelica was barely 11, she was running from some guys whenever found a hideout in an alley as well as some old knives tossed out from a restaurant. From that day on, those were her only allies against the world. She became fearless when learned how to throw sharp objects flawlessly in any target she wanted, also earning much respect at the streets.
It took her 10 years to finally be able to get out of her debt and started to gain some money for her own interest, and the first thing she did was to walk into a cheap restaurant and buy some hot soup and a piece of bread.
The waiter measured her from head to toe, judging her by her dirty clothes and messy hair, since when Angelica put a foot in the place and sat at the stool. She ordered her meal and placed three coins in the counter before the waiter looked disgustedly at them "I won't take your dirty money"
"What?" Angelica chuckles in confusion "Money is money. You have to take it!"
"I don't have to do anything. Now get the hell out of my restaurant!" The man spits and by this time the entire restaurant was already murmuring and looking at them.
"You can't do this! There are laws for this kind of things you know?!"
"Wanna call the cops and see what they have to say about you, slut?" He hissed and Angelica gasped at his arrogance but before she could give him a piece of her mind, someone intervened.
"Excuse me, sir" A stranger man interrupts, sounding just as arrogant as the man attending Angelica, and she raises a sharp eyebrow at the newcomer "But I am the one paying for her meal, are you refusing my money?"
The cashier suddenly looks pale and Angelica side smiled at the sight of it, even though she was highly confused by what was happening "N-No no, Mister Jefferson. It was j-just a misunderstood. I must take her order right now" He took the coins but the tall man grabbed his hand of a sudden, making the cashier jump and wide open his eyes.
"I think I just changed my mind. We are not dinning here tonight" He then took the coins and simply left the place.
"H-Hey!" Angelica shouted going after the man with her money "You just ruined my first real meal in months, you tall b-"
"I guess I just gave you the opportunity to have an actual meal rather than that cheap soup and also avoided him to arrest you, so your welcome" He replies not even looking behind or slowing his pace.
Angelica hesitated for a moment as she kept following him "How you are so sure they were gonna arrest me?"
"They don't care if you did nothing, just a look at you and you are doomed"
"And just a look at you and they bow for your highness" She says sarcastically and mockingly bows for him, making him chuckle and finally stop walking.
"I'm Thomas Jefferson by the way" He charmingly says with an enchanting smirk that could make any girl melt right in place and takes her hand, kissing it right after.
"Yea, I've heard of you" Angelica sharply replies with a disgusted scowl, pulling her hand back "Aren't you that New York mayor's son?"
"In all my glory" He says and she rolls her eyes "I'm actually here to help some political parties and study before going back to help my father in the Big Apple"
