Margarita Peggy Smith never had someone to really count on. She had her parents of course, they were actually very lovable and caring, but in most of the time they were working so Peggy was left alone to face the world. And it was never a good thing.

Whenever she had to step out of the house to do her chores or even to play around, sooner or later she would be beaten up just by the simple fact of her skin color being darker. Peggy wasn't strong at all and was very tiny compared to the others; she never stood a chance against them.

And just as usual, that same group of mean kids had just cornered her in an alley. She breathed shakily as they kept smirking and saying awful things at her as they walked closer. But this time, something different happened.

"HEY!" A boy wearing a bandana that looked a bit older and way larger than Peggy shouted and she shrugged in fear at the sight of him "Stop- Hey STOP!" He pushed some of the boys away and they complained.

"Hey, what do you think you are doing, you negro?!" The one who seemed like the leader shouted grabbing the boy's shirt but surprisingly the new boy pushed him to ground before turning to Peggy and grabbing her arm, starting to run out of that alley and dragging her along.

They heard the boys screaming and running after them "W-Who are you?!" Peggy asked trying to match her speed with the boy's as he still pulled her by her wrist.

"I'm Hercules!"

"Nice to meet you! I'm Peggy!"

"Hi, Peggy!" He looked over his shoulder and sighted the boys not too far from them "I guess they won't give up that easily!"

"Not at all!" She shouted back and pointed to a hidden path with her head "To the woods! Let's go that way!"

He complied and they ran full speed into the woods, unfortunately, the boys kept after them. Hercules then got an idea and climbed a rock, Peggy following him quickly. He jumped and reached a low branch from a tree, climbing into it and then turning around to call Peggy to follow him.

She shacked her head "It's too high! I won't reach it!"

Hercules looked around quickly and took a deep breath before locking his legs in the branch and letting his half up body fall over, stretching one his arms as far as he could towards Peggy while the other held the branch. She took a step back and got impulse before jumping. She grabbed his arm and he struggled but managed to lift her, once she got high enough to reach the branch she grabbed it and climbed to his side.

The group of boys had just reached them but they were much higher than them and Hercules lifted a finger over his mouth to indicate Peggy to stay quiet.

"Where did they go!?"

"I don't know! We were just behind them!"

"Ugh, forget it! We'll get her tomorrow, let's go!" And just like that, they left and after a minute the two kids sitting at the tree managed to breathe normally again.

"Thank you, Hercules. Thank you a lot" She thanked the boy even though she knew she was going to get it worse in the next day for running away.

"It was nothing, you seemed like needed help and I just did what I thought was right" He said and she smiled at him "Do you wanna play with me?"

...

They spent the rest of the day playing around the woods, doing more jumps over stones, climbing in trees and even crossed a stream. But when it started to get dark they knew that had to go back.

"It was so nice to play with you!" Peggy said smiling brightly. She hadn't played with any kid in so long that she completely forgot about the bullies.
