The second night at the lake, Tim stayed in his own bed. He wished he hadn't slept like a log, because he didn't even remember his first night with Julie in his arms. 'First night' implied there would be more, and he hoped for a lot more.

Artie gave him a hard time about being worked up over his sleeping with Kate. He felt weird about them having sex in his parents' bed. He didn't want to think about his parents doing it, but he didn't want his friend doing it there either. Maybe he was acting like a prude. He wasn't innocent, but he was sure Jules was. He was just afraid to broach the subject with her. He was thankful for Bernie, because if he had woken on his own with Jules pressed against him, he may have scared her. She laughed at his jokes about the cold water still joking was different from it poking her.

They filled their days with sun and swimming. He took Julie out in the rowboat again for some alone time. He also took them out in the speedboat. Nicky and Clare skied, but he didn't have anyone to drive for him. He would like to get Julie to try, but he needed to be in the water with her.

Artie asked, "Is there a bar or someplace we can go for some fun?"

Nick answered, "The drive-in."

Tim laughed. "I think he means grown up fun, Nicky."

Nick looked at him funny as if he questioned his brother being a grownup, then he sighed and went for a swim.

"There are a few places in town. We could go have dinner."

"Yes!" Kate exclaimed. "Let's get out of these woods."

Bernie looked at Tim pleading. "I could go for a night out."

The girls were in the other room getting ready. Artie paced and Bernie complained about being hungry. Tim was sure it was Kate who was taking so long but didn't say it. Finally, they emerged. Julie looked beautiful with her tan. She smiled at him and he reached out his hand. He loved to have her in his arms and she willingly complied.

They piled into his car and drove to a place he went with his local friends. He wasn't sure if he would see anyone he knew but the town was small enough, so it was a possibility. More likely there would be people who knew he was Dr. Burke's son. They were enjoying greasy bar food and drinks when Bernie swore. "Shit."

Artie poked Tim. "Jim!"

Tim had forgotten Jim Albert had told him about his house on the lake. Julie whispered. "He's on a date. Maybe I should introduce myself as his former girl."

Tim hissed. "Don't you dare."

Julie laughed. "Are you jealous?"

"No, he doesn't deserve you."

Bernie said, "Let's wait until he's settled in and go say hello." Meanwhile the waitress came by and fell for Bernie's charm. "Could I have another one of these, darlin." He held up his beer and winked at her.
