"... Come on I'll show you my garage."
Michael really wasn't certain why he needed to see a garage but was not about to question it.
Tim asked, "Are you feeling better?"
Michael nodded and was in awe of the cleanest, most organized garage he had ever seen. There was a place for every tool. He suddenly had garage envy, and he didn't even know he wanted a garage. It was large with enough room for two cars and a ride-on mower.
"Did you really move to Maine just for my sister?" Michael nodded and would explain, but Tim stopped him as he continued. "I have a wife and two daughters. I know what females are like. My sister can get a little crazy. She's competitive, but she's loyal to a fault. You need to know this and accept it, because the girl will never change."
Michael started laughing. He hadn't expected Tim to warn him about Clare. Tim glared at him.
"I'm sorry. The day I met her, I learned how loyal and loving she was. I knew with in a half hour if I wanted to see her again, I had better be willing to pick up my life and move across the country, because that was where she was planning to live. As for crazy, she ran away from me the first time I kissed her, and it wasn't because she didn't like it. I promise you, I know how to tame her."
"Please don't tell me the details! This is my little sister we're talking about."
Michael laughed, because that was one way to calm her when she worked herself up about something. He felt overly confident. "Did I pass your test?"
"What test? I wanted to show you my garage."
When Dr. and Mrs. Burke arrived, he didn't expect to receive a hug and a warm handshake. Dr. Burke asked, "Do you know what you're getting into with my daughter?"
"I think so, but the garage is available if you want to tell me."
The father looked at his son. "You didn't."
Julie said, "Oh yes, he did!"
Dr. Burke asked, "Did he pass?"
Tim nodded, "He's okay."
They initiated him into a secret society, and he wished things had gone this smoothly at his house for Clare. By the time they sat at the table, he felt like family. Dinner was delicious, and the conversation flowed. He watched the dynamic between the generations and the couples.
Julie said, "Tim only invited you so he could have cake."
"Don't believe her, we have a family meal together every Sunday for anyone who can come. We expect you from now on"
Mrs. Burke added, "Yes, it's often at our house, but Tim wanted to host."
"Only because he wanted to show off his garage." Julie teased.
