Evan was an incredible cook and I wasn't saying this lightly. I meant it from the soles of my feet!
"I take it you like it?" Evan grinned as I inhaled the homemade pizza he had just painstakingly made for me.
"I'm marrying this, I'm not even kidding right now"
"I don't think that's legal" he laughed taking a gulp of his water.
I chewed in silence as he watched me and furrowed my eyebrows, "could you possibly stop staring? It makes the act of eating good pizza, less intimate"
"Oh, I forgot. Your marrying it" he nodded earnestly and gave me an apologetic nod, "my bad"
"Shut up, Evan" I rolled my eyes noting his sarcasm as he threw his head back in laughter.
"I wish someone would look at me the way you look at that pizza" I knew he meant it as a joke but it made an air of awkwardness set in, instead.
We both kind of just remained in our spots, me eating my pizza and him taking nervous sips of his water.
"So this house...what's the story behind it?" I asked finally breaking the silence.
"Well, it's our childhood home like I already told you before" he gave me an odd look and I rolled my eyes.
"I get that but why haven't you sold it or something? It's pretty obvious someone's still paying for it since there's a fully stocked fridge and working utilities"
He watched me for a second before nodding, "I don't really know...ever since my mom died it's just kind of always been here. I've never thought to ask why"
"Oh"
"Andrea" Evan began and bit his lip looking mildly uncomfortable, "I'm sorry about Essie"
I blinked at the suddenness and nodded mechanically, "So am I"
"It was my stupid party and~"
"Don't." I grunted, " you can't blame yourself because you threw the party...it could've happened to anyone"
"But it happened to her" he looked down and I saw the hurt in his eyes, "I've known Essie since the fourth grade"
My eyebrows shot up at that as I didn't know they had a history.
"Yeah, our dads were really close back in highschool and kind of grew up together...I don't know why they stopped hanging out but by the time they did, Essie and I were already pretty tight...until she got mixed in with the stoners"
"Yeah" I nodded knowing that Essie had a thing for substances of the illegal variety.
"God, I should've known"
"How could you have possibly known, Evan? You aren't Raven" I tried at a joke but he just shook his head.
"The moment I saw her talking to Adam Morovitz, I should've known something bad was going to happen. Bad follows Morovitz"
My eyes snapped to meet his as he spoke, "whose Adam?"
"Belmont's biggest loser. That night at the party, Essie was yelling at him about something but I didn't stick around long enough to see what his reaction was" my eyes widened at this and he nodded.
"I shouldn't even be talking about this...he used to be the teams supplier but..." He trailed off and I cleared my throat.
"But what, what happened?" I didn't know why I was so interested in the idea of this Adam Morovitz.
"There was this one time he supplied some of the guys with this stuff after a game and it made them go crazy. Like paranoia to the max, Andrea"
"Why didn't anyone call the police?" I gasped.
"And say what, 'oh hey, so we were buying drugs to unwind but the guy totally gave us LSD on steroids'" Evan shrugged, "there's no doubt the team would've been suspended"
I was about to argue with him when something popped into my head, "Evan...what does Adam look like?"
"Hes kind of on the short side, blonde, dresses like he's in a wiz khalifa music video...yknow, big shirt, super skinny jeans, vans"
My eyes widened slightly as I thought back to my first day at Belmont and I abruptly stood up, "Evan, you have to take me home"
"Andrea~"
"Evan. Now"
~
"Andrea did I do something?" Evan asked for the sixth time as he pulled up to my driveway and cut the engine.
"Evan" I sighed turning to him, "you didn't do anything. I promise"
"I'm glad you called"
I stared straight ahead for a second before turning and placing a kiss on his cheek, "So am I"
With that, I got out of the car and used my key to enter the house after waving at Evan a final time.
"Andrea!" I heard multiple shrieks as everyone bounded to the foyer and I gritted my teeth upon noticing Penn.
"You've gotta leave"
"Says who?" London gave me a glare and I sighed.
"Because He can't hear this"
"You might wanna quit being a bitch, then" London snapped.
I steeled myself from landing a slap to her face and shrugged, "I guess I deserve that"
"You also deserve the grounding your gonna get for scaring us all half to death. Nate drove around for an hour looking for you" Mark gave me a disappointed look and my heart soared.
"You did?"
"Well, it seemed like the least stupid thing to do...your welcome by the way" Nate gave me an easy grin and I let a small bubble of laughter escape.
"In all seriousness though, what did you wanna say?" Des asked popping out from behind Mark.
"It's a family matter" I murmured slowly looking at Penn as London hit me with a glare so vicious I almost face planted the ground.
"Your a b~"
"No, I should go. My dads probably wondering where I am" Penn waved my rudeness off and slowly walked to the door, "oh and Andy?"
I turned to face him and he gave me a slow heartbreaking smile, "I know your taking this really hard and I want you to know I'm here for you...I might be a prick half the time, but~"
"Your a sensitive prick" I grinned despite myself. He nodded and nudged me before opening the door and disappearing into the night. I turned back to the group, ignoring London's look of pure evil,
"I think I might know who sold Essie the drugs that killed her"
