Chapter 34

"Mother, daddy what are you doing here?"  Cora walks right in like she owns the place. "Regina darling did you really think I wouldn't show up once I heard my daughter had a baby?"   "Please mother, we've barely spoken in the last few years. How did you even find out?"  "It's a small town. Word is bound to spread that the Mayor had a child. How is my grandson by the way?"  "He's fine mother and so is your granddaughter is case you are wondering".  "Oh yes Zelena's child". Cora has no facial expression as she looks at my father holding Angie. Regina's father hardly ever says anything if Cora is around, but he actually does visit us quite often. I don't know why he stays with her but it's not really any of my business. I just feel bad for the guy. He's so wonderful and Cora, well Cora is just cold. "Well I'll let you get back to your friends dear. Congratulations". And that was it Cora just walked out the door. Henry on the other hand gave Regina a hug. "I'm so happy for you both. He's just beautiful. Both my grandchildren are".  He hugs Regina again. "I'll come visit soon my princess. Love you.  Bye everyone".  "I love you too daddy. Bye".  "Wow that was interesting" I say with a little laugh. Regina gives me a look to tread carefully. "Sorry babe. I'm just wondering if she's planing something".  Anyway we all moved on from that then we had another knock at the door. Thankfully it was Ruby and Dorothy. They both had bags in their hands. Gifts bags and what looks like take out food. "Hey mommies. Congratulations. Where is my new nephew?"  Of course Ruby comes in like she's the life of the party. "He's sleeping in Regina's arms Ruby so keep it down".   "Oops. Sorry. Dor and I brought food. A cheeseburger for you Ems and Regina I thought you'd like something a little light after just giving birth so I got you a grilled chicken sandwich and a big side of sweet potato fries for you both".  I hug her and Regina says. "Thank you Ruby that was so kind of you". Angie was starting to get a little cranky. I'm sure she was also hungry and tired. "Emma do you guys want Angie to come home with us?"  "Yes dad please if you don't mind".  "Of course not sweetheart. We will always take good care of her". I hug him. "I know dad and thank you for being here for me". He kisses my head. "You are my baby girl Emma and you always will be".  He kisses my head again and says. "Ok enough mushy stuff. Go be with your wife and new son. Have something to eat and figure out what to name my grandson".  "Yes dad thank you so much". We hug again and I take my daughter from Kathryn and hold her close. "Be good for grandma and grandpa ok my sweet girl". Her tired eyes flutter and she snuggled into my shoulder. I wish I could take her home but I should be here with Regina and our son. We all will be home together soon enough. My dad and Kat hug Regina and then take Angie home with them. So now it's just me, Regina, Ruby, Dorothy and the baby. "Ok Ems, Dor and I are gonna take off too. You two enjoy your late lunch and we'll see you soon".  I was a little surprised that they wanted to leave so soon but I know Regina is tired and so am I and we are both hungry. "Ok Rubes. Thanks so much for everything. Dorothy your the best". I hug them both and then Regina does. They leave and our son is the crib sleeping and I sit on Regina's hospital bed and let out a deep breath. I look at Regina and we both smile. "You hungry babe?"   "Yes Emma I actually am".  "Do you want what Ruby brought us or do you want me to go get something?"  "No sweetheart please don't leave. I'll eat the chicken sandwich Ruby brought and you can eat the burger if you want and I can't wait to eat those sweet potato fries". She gives me a beautiful smile. I lean in to kiss her. "Oh baby I love you so much".  "I love you Emma. Thank you for making my life complete. We have a beautiful daughter and a beautiful baby boy". I kiss her again. "How about I get those sandwich's babe?"  "Yes please". I get up and open the bags. I put everything on Regina's bed table and we eat our food. Even though nothing was hot it was still warm and tasted delicious. After we ate our son woke up and was hungry so Regina breast fed him and he fell right back to sleep. I put him back in his crib and pushed the call button so the nurse could take him back to the nursery then Regina and I fell asleep.
The next morning Regina and I woke up and had a hospital breakfast. It wasn't that bad if you added enough salt and pepper. Regina almost freaked when I put ketchup on my scrambled eggs. "Emma. Oh dear god what on earth are you doing?"  "I'm sorry babe I'm hungry and this shit needs some kind of flavor". She rolls her eyes at me. "Your right. This shit does suck". I laugh so hard, she hardly ever swears. "Oh babe. I love you". I lean in and kiss her. There is a knock at the door and it's Dr. Olsen. "Good morning ladies how is everything?"  "Except for the food we are doing great Doc". She smiles at me. "So how are you feeling Regina?"   "I'm still sore and tired, but other than that I think I'm fine".  "Well I'm happy to hear that. I would like to check you out once more and then as long as everything is starting to heal the way it should I can have you and the baby discharged this morning". Regina and I are beyond happy. I think Regina and I are done with breakfast because it really does suck. I move everything out of the way and the the doctor did her thing. She checked Regina out and says everything seems fine. "Ok. So unless either of you has any objections I can sign your release forms and you two can take your baby home". I began to get a little emotional. "Emma sweetheart. Are you ok?"   "Yes I'm sorry. So I can take my family home?" The doctor smiles at me. "Yes Emma you sure can. I will give these papers to the nurse and she will get you all the after care instructions and set you up with your first appointments". She wishes us both the best and leaves the room. I'm still in... I don't know shock I guess. Regina notices a difference in me. "Sweetheart what's wrong? You look a little nervous".  I can't help the tears that fall from my eyes. "I'm so sorry. This is what I wanted to happen with Zelena but it never did and that was unbelievably hard for me. Now..". I cry a little more then I clear my throat. "Now I get to take my wife and our child home. Thank you. Thank you so much for giving that to me Regina". I'm pretty much sobbing at this point and she leans in and holds me so tight. "I love you Emma. No need to thank me sweetheart". We hold each other for a little while, until the nurse comes in. "Oh I'm sorry to disturb you but I have your discharge papers here. If your ready?"  We both listened to all the instructions. Another nurse came in with our son in his nursery crib. I had his car seat base all set up in the car and the holder in the hospital room with us. When all the instructions were done I helped Regina get dressed in the bathroom as the nurses got our son changed and safely in his car seat carrier. I had the hospital valet get my car and I called my dad to tell him that Regina and I were going home with the baby. He was so happy. He told me that he would meet us at the house. Once Regina was ready, I gathered all our things and a wheelchair was brought in and a few nurses helped us out to the car. Wow. This is everything I wanted. I put the baby in the car seat base while a nurse helps Regina in the car. Once we were all secure in the car I took my family home.
