lion's jaws

a raven caws
with blackened jaws
a lion with monstrous paws
restricted by no human laws

with these images I recollect
a person far from perfect
and yet there was a time now lost
where you captured me with great cost

you are the screeching raven
drawing those from their havens
the prowling lion you possess
no law you break do you confess

formed from midnight feathers
flying through all weathers
equipped with a smile to cause pain
and crowned with a golden mane

there was no mask you wore
it was the mysteries in store
that drew me into your den
never to leave again

but inside I now dwell alone
it seems that you were known
for catching hearts as your prey
then leaving at the break of day

sometimes I wish I could un-see
the memories that plague me
for they destroy my chance to free
what is left of my heart's debris
