empress of life

i weep at the beauty
of nature so fine
of a life so ethereal
it'll outlive mine

a figure of night
clad only in stars
crowned in galaxies
and entrapped by no bars

she dwells in forests
across deserts and dunes
dances through clouds
breathes whispered fortunes

a Sovereign, a Monarch
an Empress, a Queen
a ruler of Earth
glimpsed in a dream

yes she's a Queen
but witness her weep
as we lay waste
to all under her feet

crumble her mountains
and poison her seas
she falls to the ground
as we bring down her trees

a Mother of Earth
the Empress of life
and yet merely humans
can cause her strife
