When I came to I was alone, laying in the dark. My body was stiff and the air was stagnant. I tried turning my head to the side, just to give up when my neck groaned in protest. I waited for my eyes to adjust to the darkness and tried to recall what had happened to me.
I tried to move my head again a few minutes later, managing to get a look to my left. There was a metal grate, like a prison cell, acting as a wall in that direction. Forcing my head to the right, there was moss and grime covered cobblestone.
My best guess is that after reading Rin to sleep, I was knocked out, and then brought underground. The new question was why? And by whom? It's not like I had any enemies yet. The only people I knew from this era were Inuyasha, Sesshomaru, Rin, Aya, Anna, and Jacken. I ticked them each off as I counted, nodding in satisfaction afterwards.
I was jerked from my thoughts by the slam of a door, and then the clacking of footsteps down the hall. I crinkled my nose at the dank smell that flooded my senses before I saw a dark figure standing before my prison.
"Ai, we've been waiting such a long time for you to return." Hissed a scratchy, gruff voice.
"You may have been protected by your mother before, but this time you're all alone." The voice cackled.
I shivered in distaste and remained silent. The silhouette took a pregnant pause, and then walked away,
"I'll return, don't fret pretty fox." The voice wheezed out and then he was gone.
"Well, fuck me and fuck this." I shuddered and snapped the chains that tried to hold me to the ground.
"Did the bitch forget that I was a fucking demon?" I growled.
I felt my claws sharpen and my eyes glowed in the darkness, I ripped two of the metal bars out of the wall piece and slipped out, no way was I waiting for the creep to return.
I stalked down the eerie corridor, finding myself in front of a flight of slimy stairs. I paused and listened, hearing nothing u continued up and stopped at a rusty iron door. What's with all the iron in this place? I'm not a ghost. I rolled my eyes and pushed the door open slowly, not that it mattered. It opened with a low whine, sounding as if it hadn't been opened in years.
I gasped and almost tumbled back down the stairs when I came face to face with a glowing figure, she looked troubled.
"I'm sorry Ai." She whispered, the silver hair that draped her eyes getting flipped to the side, allowing me to watch her green eyes turn red.
"He's making me do it." She clenched out in pain.
"Mom?! Mom!" I shrieked as I realized who she was.
"It's too late, Ai. Run." And then she lunges at me.
I shrieked as I slid underneath her floating form, and started running down the long hall. My hair was grabbed from behind and I was thrown into a wall. I groaned as I stood up again, looking up just as my mother came upon me once more.
I curled up into a ball as I felt hard jabs against my sides and back, and hacked as blood slid from my lips. All at once, I heard a hiss and the assaults stopped. I shuddered and looked up, my key had slid from my pocket. I brightened when I realized that my key was iron, she must've touched it.
"I'm sorry mom...but...it's my turn to live a life." I whispered and held the iron against her chest, watching a bright light engulf her and then...she was gone.
Sucking in a deep breath, I turned again and made my way out of the dirty building. I flinched once in the bright sunlight and stopped walking only when I heard footsteps behind me.
"You think you're clever, don't you?" Hissed out a scratchy voice.
I whirled around to see an old man, crouched over a walking cane.
"Do you think I'm that weak?" I hissed and stalked closer.
"No, I think you're that stupid." He cackled, throwing his head back.
"I'll see you again, Ai. This time was just a test. The next time, I'll have your soul forever." His voice faded as he disappeared.
