Author's POV

The night was dark. The street lamps barely provided light. But that light was enough to guide two little souls. Young souls that didn't see the truth of this world, yet.

"Oh come on, scaredy cat, we're almost there." Chase hissed. He was trying to push Allen a little more, untill they reached Allen's house aware that he was quite scared himself. The night was eerie. A storm was brewing. Not only in nature, but also in Allen's life. A storm that would squander her perfectly designed life.

"I'm not a scaredy cat. I'm just afraid of the dark." Allen protested. Darkness was never her friend to begin with.

"Yeah right. And I'm the king of England."

"England has a queen. Not a king."

"Just pretend I never said anything." Chase was holding it in. He thought he was doing great by distracting her from reality. He thought he was protecting her. Little did he know.

"Look there's our house." Allen finally beamed. It was a tough walk back home. But it was worth it. She would finally see her father. She wondered if he had returned home.

"Finally. If this continued for one more minute, you would have started crying." Chase teased.

"I would've not."

As they grew closer to the house, they could hear voices. Voices that were certainly of Allen's parent's. They weren't voices anymore. They were shouts.

"What's going on?" Allen was clueless.

"Maybe they are fighting." Chase wasn't sure. He had seen his parents shouting their heads of sometimes like that which his elder brother had given the title of 'fighting'.

"Fighting? But they are best friends. They never fight."

"Allen even best friends can fight sometimes you know."

The shouts grew louder. At one hand, there was the darkness that Allen so feared, on the other hand the screams of her parents she had never heared. Chase noticed how Allen trembled. He took hold of her hand instinctively.

"C-Chase, I'm scared." Allen was about to cry.

"Of course you are. You're a scaredy cat." Chase couldn't think of anything. He tried to console her but he didn't know how.

"I-I'm not."

"Allen.." More shouts came from inside the household. Outside the door of that household, two souls trembled having no idea of what was going on inside.

"Chase, s-shouldn't we g-go inside?" Allen wanted to know. Wanted to know what happened.

"Not now." He couldn't let her go inside. Especially when he himself had no idea what was going on between her parents. He didn't want Allen to be exposed to danger and he knew anyone of the entities on the other side of the door can hurt her.

The shouting subsided followed by a strangled cry. Allen fell on the ground. What little strength she had, left her.

Chase crouched beside her. He wanted to do something. Something to help her, protect her.

"Allen, it's alright. Everything is fine." He whispered to her as he had heard his mother whispering to his brother whenever he failed a test. He wasn't sure if the gravity of the two situations were same.

"C-chase. What's going on?"

"Nothing. They are now being best friends again."

"R-really?"

"Y-yes. Now let's get in."

"Now?"

"Hmm. Now."

"But..Chase.."

"Allen, you have to face your own fears. Don't be scared. Face your fears. Remember no matter what happens, I'll protect you. Forever." He stuttered

" You mean Face my own fears?"

"Yes."

"Will you stay by my side?"

"If you wish me to. Now, let's go inside."

"Allen." The door opened and a strained voice called.

"Mom, what's wrong? Did you cry?"

"No sweetie. Oh is this Chase? How are you, dear?"

"I was given the responsibility to bring your daughter safely to your house."

"Look at you talking. Such a fine young man."

Chase blushed. But deep down he knew what Emily was hiding. There was pain hidden behind her smile.

"I'll be going then. Bye Allen." Chase bid her goodbye although he wanted to stay with her.

"Bye bye Chase."

After Chase completely out of sight, Allen turned behind. She saw a scence she never wanted to, never prepared herself to see.

"Get out." Her father shouted. Even the glass if the windows shook with his voice leave Allen's fragile heart which had loved her father so much. For the first time in her life, she saw her father's this side. She wished she hadn't.

"Where will I go?"

"How am I supposed to know?" The storm was raging outside. A much more harmful than that storm raged in Allen's life and heart.

"What do you mean? I'm your wife."

"You should've remembered that when you let that scoundrel touch you."

"I let a scoundrel touch me? That scoundrel was trying to console me because you cheated on me."

"I was drunk. You were not."

"That justifies the fact you let another woman touch you."

"Yes and you will get out of my house, you whore."

"Hayden!"

"Shut up. I don't want you say my name with that filthy mouth. Leave!"

Emily was surprised how Hayden could talk to her like that after all they had gone through together. It was her fault. After all she was the one who didn't stop him when fell in the clutches of evil. She let him go astray. She suffered a lot but she wouldn't let her daughter suffer. She picked up Allen who was frozen with fear.

"Where are you taking her?" Hayden barked from behind.

"I'm taking her with me."

"Do as you wish, just fucking leave me and my house."

Allen always her father loved her. But now she wasn't so sure anymore.

Within a blink of eye, Emily was out of the house with Allen. Now she was out in the raging storm, with her only daughter. Her only will to survive. While Allen now had a new worry other than the monsters lurking in the dark. It was the end of a tale and the beginning of another.
