Emily's POV

The wind was really strong today. It was already winter. That meant I didn't have much time left. I already transferred Allen to a nearby school. She'll stay here and study. She'll be safe here. She was pretty much close to my mom. Much closer than I ever was.

"Emi?" My mom peeked through the open door. She was once a tall woman but I guess age took its toll on her.

"Yes mother."

"This came on the mail today."

She handed me over the brown envelope. Probably one of the legal documents.

"Thank you, mother." I smiled a little. It was a tired smile.

"What's in it?" She asked.

"In it?" I should tell her. After all she'll have all the legal documents regarding Allen. I still don't know how much time I've in my hands but I know it's short. Very short.

"What is it? Are you finally ready to talk?" Although she tried to sound cold I got the hint of concern underneath her strict tone.

I went and sat down on my bed. My mom followed me.

"You know Emi, if there's something bothering you, you can tell me. I'll try my best to help you." Her voice was breaking.

"Mom, can you please call dad here too? I need to get this off my chest."

"Well he's playing chess with Allen now. You can tell me, I'll let him know."

"Please, mother. I need to tell it to you both of you. Myself."

"Alright. I'll call that old man."

"Don't let Allen come too."

"How old do you think I'm? Do you really think I'll let my granddaughter be bothered by something you are struggling with?"

"No. You won't."

She gave me a reassuring smile before heading out. I clutched the envelope to my chest.

Then I heard rustling outside my room.

"Why are you taking me towards Emi's room? I thought we were.."

Mom brought Dad in with her.

"Oh Emi, is something wrong?" He looked at me with his kind eyes. Two tears escaped my eyes thinking about how less time I've with them.

"Come on, sweetie. Tell me. Did your mom scold you again?"

Mom glared at him.

"No no. She didn't tell me anything. I-I just have something to tell you both." I rehearsed this moment thousand times in my head. I told myself I'll be able to do it. But now when the moment is here itself, it's like a huge lump has formed in my throat.

"Go on." Mom came and sat beside me. She held my hand. Dad took a seat on a nearby chair.

"I'm so s-sorry that I hid it f-from you. I know I should've told you this earlier, but I was just so scared."

"Why? What's wrong? Tell me Emi." My mom urged.

"I-I have stage 4 lung cancer."

"What?" Dad got up so fast that the chair fell and met the floor with a loud thud.

I could here Allen coming towards my room.

"Mom?" She asked from the other side of the closed door. "Are you okay?"

"Please don't let her know." I whispered between my tears.

I desperately was trying to wipe my tears off when dad opened the door.
