Space buns were equally placed and in messy buns on the top of a pale head. Pink filling once blonde hair and glasses were decidedly placed on the bridge of a slim nose. The rounded nose was often referred to as cute and the glasses seemed to compliment that as well as the piercing brown eyes looked at all they could. A short, five foot five girl stood. A tight black dress clung to the curves and the tights carried down to the black boots with heels on. Not that the mirror could show that much. It did show the piercing on a delicate septum and the cuff that looped down to the small studded earring that was in the usual place in the ear.
The mirror told me something I didn't like. That I was not only awake but also at work. My phone was telling me something that I did like though. It was a mere few hours until I could go home and sleep or eat the night away. That was enough to make me rip my eyes from the bathroom mirror and to the walls as I moved back to my desk.
"Miss Astraea, I would like a word." Without saying a thing I stood and followed the man that had just spoken and a glance was sent to Luciana as she gave me a pitiful smile. Wishing me all of the available luck she could muster. A sweet smile covering her face as her hand covered another document. Her eyes were a stunning blue and they contrasted with her dark skin. I was jealous to say the least of her good looks but she knew that.
The office we entered was quiet and I sighed out to nothing in particular. Nothing was right as he was walking rigidly as well as his constant pulsating vein in his neck. He was angry and I was sure of it as he always did that. Nothing I would do could help him out of his rut though. He sighed and sat at his desk then he signalled for me to close the door. I did so but kept my eyes on him. Nothing could be missed if I stuck to him. His hand wiping his forehead and then pulling his jacket off.
"If I have done something Mr Link it wasn't done in a malicious way and if I can correct it I will. I have done the rounds with the doctors in question over the Ms Aman case and it seems fine. Just a matter of it being handed over to the lawyers that have been selected. I am willing to do it but that obviously isn't protocol..." I was cut short when a hand lifted and I found his deep green eyes studying me closely as he took in what I had spoken. He had a head of red hair and his body was well toned. He was attractive to be sure and if offered I may do things that don't follow the rules of the floor but he was worth it. Even for a night. A small muffled sound came from my right.
I snapped my head around to see what had caused it and sure enough a person stood. His skin held no sort of blemish and he looked stupidly young as his face brought a smile foreward. His dark brown hair was well organised to keep him attractive, his skin held a pale glow and his eyes looked to be blue but with flecks of black in them. His face held a small and well kept beard. Not long enough to hold but it would be felt.
"Ambrose Belmont." I smiled and looked him over to see him properly. The lights from the office and also the dimming sunlight gave me a fair view and he was acceptable. He was direct and the handshake was a little harsh but he seemed to be very strong from what was known about it.
"Well Ambrose Belmont, do you have any middle names in there?" He licked his lips and nodded as a hand ran to the buttons on his suit jacket around his body. Muscles were clearly hidden beneath the white shirt and the eyes that stuck to me made my body fill with a tingle and I suddenly felt self-conscious about my body.
"I do. Ambrose Fane Belmont. What about yourself? Any hidden names I am unaware of? A first name even." I wasn't about to answer but before I could say no a voice spoke over me with authority and determination that was normal for Mr Link.
"You two can do this elsewhere. I have work to do and so do you Miss Astraea. Patients can't be allowed to claim every penny from this hospital. The NHS is struggling as it is. That can wait until Mr Belmont has been shown to the empty cubicle and you have shown him how to use the Hive." I nodded and then walked out, expecting Ambrose to follow and he did in a fast pace. To the point I felt like I was a snail and he a rabbit.
We walked through the office whilst calls were made and received. Voices carried and paperwork was a daily grind but it still made us all want to pull our hair out almost all the time. That was when the open desk was approached, right beside mine and I felt a little uneasy. It was easy to avoid Mr Link as he was so far away and harsh. Mr Belmont was close and a hell of a lot kinder. I would undoubtedly fall for him and he would marry another and that other may be Luciana.
"You seem pensive." He had managed to snap me out of my reverie and into the present. A smug look on his face and I jokingly sneered at him. My hand was about to smack him playfully on the arm but before I could even start to move I stopped. Looking into his eyes and smiling weakly.
"Sorry, Mr Link was in my mind. Now, this is your desk. Have you used the Hive before?" He shook his head but a smile played at his lips and I shook my head. Not fully understanding what he was playing at.
"You have, ideal. I am right next to you and Andy is on the other side. He is smarter and kinder but if you get desperate please turn to me for help. Mr Link will have my head if you mess up at all in the next month and I can't afford to lose this job. Oh, and your login is written on the paper Mr Link gave you. Well, it is normally and was for me." He nodded and seemed to take it in as I smiled and stepped back to leave the desk of his and go back to mine right next to his old but new desk."You never told me your name." I shrugged and then gave him a lost look before sitting at my desk and then looking at my paperwork. Pen met paper as the words blurred at odd moments and my head began to ache. As soon as my hand went to rub my head for a little relief though the pain left me and nothing even close to the pain was felt. After that though the words stayed exactly where they were and my head felt exactly as it should.
Hours seemed to pass when the clock on my desk hit home time. I sighed in relief and began to pack up but the male beside me seemed to be working just as effortlessly and his typing was so smooth that I felt like a trance had taken over my eyes until I brought myself out of it and finished up. That was when I thought it appropriate to look at the man next to me, waiting for him to leave his work.
"You know, staring is considered rude." I smirked and licked my teeth. Not taking my eyes from his hands and he didn't look up from what he was up to.
"I figured it was ruder to let a new colleague work for free but if you want to pull that card I can leave. I have to get home, work is over for me like it is for all normal people in this area of the hospital." His brow was a little thicker and it arched quite well as I spoke to him. Like years of practice had been put into it as he then looked up at me.
"I don't make a habit out of working longer than is usual but I thought it was earlier than it is." I let a soft smile fill my face and he stood up rather quickly and I smirked slightly. He was something else clearly as his whole body seemed to be so on guard about his surroundings and yet he moved so elegantly like there was nothing in it.
"Well, I am walking home and need to get back as soon as. Goodbye Mr Belmont." Before he could say another word or even move I had turned and left the office. My card swiped and the lift used as the day was finally brought to a close. It was just a normal day in the office.
