My eyes had to stay at the words before me in case I looked at Mr Link. His body and his presence still hung heavy over me and he was so close, one table was used and we sat beside one another. Like we both had to serve detention at school. Both pens moved so gradually that it was like nothing was happening but we were getting work done before the second of our important meetings.
I was just finishing up when his left arm was placed around me. It reminded me of all the times we were together, sat in small coffee shops or sat by the sea line. Those thoughts had to stop though as I knew he was a dangerous man.
The sound of nattering and laughter filled my head as the working members walked up the hall and into the room. Alex followed with a smile and wink right at Mr Link but he pretended not to notice as he gave a look out to the room of people that we would have to work with.
This time I sat down and Alex sat beside me as her body bounced. She was always hyper and I was led to believe that it was something to do with the fresh release from the waters she had been raised in. It was mentioned that those who were released from the sea or body of water for the first time would be overly excited for the first year. She was an intern on rotations though so she didn't have long until a new branch of another hospital would take her from us.
It was clear that Mr Link didn't know as much about the case as I did. He struggled answering some of the basic questions and I could see that the those who watched were losing interest. At that I smiled and stood. The next topic coming up was new and he may not even know that it was a section of what we were doing. I left my things behind and picked up the presentation clicker and he sat down.
"Sorry, I made the presentation and Mr Link is able to remember what I can't and I can recall what he can't. Not the best system it won't happen again I promise." I sighed out and refused to look up at the man in question. He had messed up bad.
"If that's the case then clearly you can recall all of it because he sure as hell can't." Grumble of a voice joked and a few laughs sounded.
"Of course not. One thing I can't remember is the name of the sites. Always escaping my memory." I knew that he had to know the names of the sites. If he just looked at the title of my emails then he would have known. The silence and reluctance to look into my eyes told me that he didn't.
"You're right. I should learn them. Now I must say that the next bit is my favourite because it gives the whole of the NHS important..." I finished the long presentation that I had sent him before we had even given the first presentation. Yet he had never even looked at it.
When it was all over I smiled and shook all of their hands. I moved and grabbed my things from the chair beside Mr Link. Where I had been sat and as I did so he tried to grab my wrist but I shook him off of me.
"Miss Glove. Could you please take these fine people out please? Miss Astraea and myself need to speak. I will see you later." He was still going at it with her in the same room that we had been close.
"Don't worry Miss Glove. Perhaps you could go over the next presentation with him. It has been in his inbox since the first one." As I tried to leave though he held onto me and I couldn't get away from him or take another step even as he clung so tight. When the last members left he let go and I stumbled forward.
"Enyo. What was that?" My eyes went wide and my body shook from the rage that I felt at him.
"Me saving your arse and the rest of our arses that work on this floor. We need this gig." I let out a sigh in the tune of a laugh before straightening my paper on the table.
"I wish I never remembered any of this. Your mother said that I would feel a deep hate for you and frankly it seems I do anyway. Now, I have to make another presentation that you won't read either, because this morning another big client approached us." As I went to put a piece of paper away in my planner my eyes saw what was missing. He had my rules.
