"That outfit was an odd choice." My eyes moved back to the person that it had come from and my line of view fell onto Mr Link. His hair well organised and his face a picture. The laugh that came from Ambrose was forgotten almost immediately.
"And why would that be Mr Link?" His eyes moved over me and then landed on the hat that I was yet to remove. I was wearing a black dress that was fitted at the chest and then it flowed a little more after my ribcage. I had a black hat that was flat. My boots also black matched perfectly as they met my ankle and had heels on them.
"Well, I referred to you as a witch and then you are here, wearing that. Wilbur really must have quite the impression on you or you on him. The pink hair is also quite apt. Now Enyo it is time we spoke." My hands let the work that was in them slowly meet the table and blindly I followed. A glance being sent my way by Lucy and I just winked. She had no clue that we really haven't pushed any barriers.
The halls were less busy than that of the ones down on the wards but people seemed to pass regularly but it didn't matter though as Mr Link had walls all the way around his desk so we could talk for how long we needed without having to lower our voices.
When we entered I made a point of looking for other people and when it came back clear I stood looking at the desk. My hands playing with the hem of my skirt that sat halfway down my thigh and I wanted him to speak but he seemed to wait for me.
"Apollo. I fear that since you have entered my house you haven't quite been the same. Now, what is it that has made you ask me into your office?" He looked over me and his eyes lingered for a second before he finally looked down to the paper before him.
"The hospital is about to be sued and I need you to persuade them not to. I have set a meeting up in half past and well that leaves you ten minutes to read the file. You may read it in here, it saves us having to meet before then as I will accompany you in there. It is a high sum that they are asking for." He let his eyes fall back to me and a hand stretched out with a small pile of paper to read. No way could ten minutes even get me past the first page.
"I either need longer or you will have to fill me in on the details." He seemed to agree easily which was not normal for him. I was sure that he was ill but he was his own man and that was something that he would have to deal with.
For a while he spoke and then we both stood. I was still pretty clueless and he knew that but as we left a hand of encouragement was left on my back. He was trying to help me and as we entered the meeting room I noticed that quite a few people were sat there and talking amongst themselves. That all stopped as they noticed that we had entered and their distant behaviours made me a little on edge.
It took an hour but they left, anger filling them and a smile plastered on my lips but as soon as they all left the smile dropped and I sat down. Not too happy with life. I would need to fill in a report and file it for the future but there was a couple of million saved for the NHS. No lawsuit for that day.
"You did well. I hadn't even thought about section 24 or 32. If it wasn't for you this case may have been a total loss for the hospital." His praise was rarely ever given so a smile took to my face and I couldn't keep it back.
"But," I had not thought of there being any more to say and yet he was going to surprise me. Maybe I will lose my job after all and all because I closed it,
"you look rough, I mean, you have cuts and bruises all over you. What happened last night? Did you get hit or fall?" He sounded genuinely concerned and a smile took to my face again. A slight blush as well and judging by the look in his eyes he could see it."I'm not entirely sure, I had a headache and passed out. I woke up and Ambrose had brought me to his house." Mr Link had stiffened at that but I couldn't for the life of me figure out what the problem was or why he reacted so badly. He was quiet though and as I stood he also stood. A hand falling to my lower back just like before.
"He told me that I had been hit by a car and then he walked me back. Nothing hurts now just like he said. I mean aside from the scratches." His eyes looked at me and then in front as we walked back to his office. A sigh escaping though it wasn't from annoyance.
